We are building the foundations of a technology platform designed to combine modern software engineering, scalable infrastructure, AI integration, and an intuitive user experience.

We are seeking a talented Founding Software Engineer to work alongside the Founder and Founding AI Engineer in shaping the architecture, developing the core platform, and establishing the engineering foundations of CLM AI.

This is an opportunity to join at an early stage, contribute directly to product development, and help shape the technical direction of the company.

The Role

As Founding Software Engineer, you will take a leading role in designing, developing, and maintaining the software infrastructure underpinning the CLM AI platform.

Working closely with the Founding AI Engineer, you will help translate product concepts into functional software, integrate AI-powered capabilities into the wider application, and develop the systems required to deliver a reliable, secure, and scalable user experience.

You will contribute to both strategic technical decisions and hands-on implementation, helping establish engineering standards and a strong technical foundation for future growth.

Key Responsibilities1. Core Platform Development

• Design, build, and maintain the core CLM AI web application.
• Develop user-facing features, application workflows, dashboards, and digital creator experiences.
• Build and maintain robust backend services, APIs, and database integrations.
• Create reusable software components and maintainable application architecture.
• Translate product requirements and design concepts into working software.

2. Software Architecture & Infrastructure

• Contribute to the technical architecture and long-term engineering roadmap.
• Design reliable, modular, and scalable application systems.
• Establish development workflows, version control, testing practices, and deployment processes.
• Support cloud infrastructure, application hosting, monitoring, and performance optimisation.
• Identify technical risks and recommend practical, cost-effective solutions.

3. Collaboration with the Founding AI Engineer

• Work closely with the Founding AI Engineer to integrate AI capabilities into the CLM AI platform.
• Develop application interfaces and backend services that connect AI models to user-facing features.
• Support integration of AI-generated content, digital creator experiences, and conversational interfaces where appropriate.
• Build the software infrastructure required to manage AI requests, user sessions, content, and associated data.
• Collaborate on technical decisions concerning performance, scalability, security, and product reliability.

4. Product Development & Innovation

• Participate in product planning, technical discussions, and early-stage prototyping.
• Evaluate frameworks, tools, and technologies suitable for the company's requirements.
• Develop and test minimum viable product (MVP) features.
• Iterate on the product in response to user feedback, testing, and commercial priorities.
• Help establish a practical roadmap from prototype through to a production-ready platform.

5. Security, Quality & Reliability

• Implement appropriate authentication, authorisation, and access controls.
• Follow secure software development practices and protect user data.
• Write maintainable, well-tested code and document important technical decisions.
• Identify and resolve bugs, performance bottlenecks, and integration issues.
• Consider privacy, intellectual property, and responsible handling of creator data throughout development.

6. Founding-Team Contribution

• Work directly with the CEO and Founder on product priorities and technical execution.
• Contribute to engineering strategy and decisions about the company's technology stack.
• Help establish the technical culture and development standards of the founding team.
• Support future recruitment and onboarding of additional software engineers as the company grows.
• Take ownership of agreed deliverables while maintaining open communication with the wider founding team.

Technical Skills & ExperienceEssential

• Strong software engineering experience or demonstrable equivalent technical capability.
• Proficiency in a modern programming language such as TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, Java, Go, or an equivalent.
• Experience developing web applications and working with frontend or backend frameworks.
• Understanding of REST APIs, application integrations, and database design.
• Familiarity with Git and collaborative software development workflows.
• Understanding of authentication, application security, testing, and software deployment.
• Ability to work independently, solve technical problems, and deliver working software.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with an AI-focused engineering colleague.

Desirable

• Experience with React, Next.js, Node.js, TypeScript, or comparable modern web technologies.
• Experience with Python-based services and AI application integrations.
• Familiarity with PostgreSQL, cloud databases, and data modelling.
• Experience deploying applications on AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, or comparable platforms.
• Knowledge of Docker, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and observability.
• Experience building SaaS products, creator platforms, media applications, or consumer-facing digital products.
• Familiarity with AI APIs, model-serving infrastructure, or applications incorporating generative AI.
• Experience working in a startup or founding engineering team.

Working Relationship with the Founding AI Engineer

The Founding Software Engineer and Founding AI Engineer will form the core technical partnership within the initial CLM AI engineering team.

• Core application and platform architecture.
• Frontend and backend development.
• APIs, databases, infrastructure, and deployment.
• Product integrations, reliability, and security.
• Delivery of the wider software platform.

Founding AI Engineer

• AI system design and integration strategy.
• Evaluation and integration of AI models.
• AI workflows, inference, and model-related services.
• Performance and quality of AI-powered functionality.
• Technical research into emerging AI capabilities.

Both engineers will collaborate on system architecture, product implementation, technical planning, and the delivery of the CLM AI MVP. The precise division of responsibilities will evolve as the platform develops.

Location & Working Arrangements

The role will operate on a hybrid working model, combining remote working with collaboration from Marylebone, Central London.

The arrangement is intended to support focused individual development alongside regular in-person planning, product discussions, and engineering collaboration.

Candidates should be comfortable coordinating work remotely and attending agreed in-person meetings when required.

Compensation & Equity

CLM AI is an early-stage venture, and the final compensation structure will reflect the company's funding position, the candidate's experience, and the scope of the role.

The package may include:

• A salary or agreed contractual remuneration, subject to available funding and the employment arrangement.
• Potential equity participation for a suitable founding-team candidate, subject to separate written agreement.
• The opportunity to take meaningful technical ownership of the platform.
• Direct involvement in product strategy and early company-building decisions.
