Founding Staff Engineer

This is a hands-on Founding Staff Engineer role with responsibility across the platform and the engineering system around it. You will own the systems infrastructure that lets ship reliably, while staying close to production and setting technical direction. You will also own how engineering operates as scales: the architecture, quality and timeline of deliverables, technical workflow, and infrastructure choices. You are accountable for the system and the engineering execution that enables customer outcomes.

Your scope and work

• Systems infrastructure and reliability. Own cloud architecture, deployment, CI/CD, observability, incident readiness, security posture and operational reliability. Deliver improvements to scalability, developer workflow and architectural clarity.
• Architecture for durable execution. Shape clear service boundaries and shared primitives for customer data, conversations and activities. Build durable workflows across models and external APIs, with explicit state, human approvals, retries, idempotency and safe recovery from partial failures.
• Technical direction and engineering delivery. Own the quality and timeline of engineering deliverables. Make priorities and trade-offs clear, coordinate consequential work across the team, and take commitments from plan to production. Establish practical standards and operating rhythms that improve decision-making, execution quality and engineering velocity.
• End-to-end problem solving. Work directly on customer problems when needed - across product, backend, integrations, platform systems or configuration - and choose the solution that creates the best outcome.

Experience We Are Looking For You will likely have 10+ years of software engineering experience. Depth of ownership and the systems you have built matter more than a particular title or exact number of years.

• Strong systems-infrastructure and distributed-systems fundamentals: cloud platforms, networking, APIs, databases, concurrency, asynchronous execution and failure handling. 
• Experience designing, operating and evolving production systems that span multiple services or product areas.
• Strong hands-on experience with deployment, CI/CD, observability, reliability engineering and incident response.
• Recent, substantial production coding experience in a startup or another high-ownership product environment.
• A record of sound technical judgment, mentoring engineers and guiding consequential design decisions through code and collaboration.

Experience with workflow engines, integration platforms or production AI systems is especially relevant. Our stack includes Python, FastAPI, TypeScript, Next.js, MongoDB, Temporal and AWS. Familiarity helps; strong systems thinking matters more than exact stack overlap.
