What they need
The Company
Our client is a well-established New Zealand organisation with a broad network of stakeholders and a complex commercial operating environment. The business plays an important role in connecting different parties across its sector and continues to evolve its systems, reporting and financial capability to support future growth.
This is an opportunity to join a collaborative team at a time when there is genuine scope to improve how financial information is modelled, presented and used across the business.
Based in Christchurch, this is a 12-month fixed-term opportunity covering a period of parental leave.
The Role
You play a key role across financial planning, forecasting, modelling and performance reporting. This is a broad FP&A position that will suit someone who enjoys working with complex data and financial models and can turn that information into clear, meaningful insights for senior stakeholders.
The business operates within a multi-layered commercial environment, meaning the modelling required is more complex than a traditional FP&A role. You'll take ownership of forecasting, support the annual budgeting process, develop dashboards and present financial insights to senior managers across the organisation.
There is also an exciting systems component to the role, with the business looking to implement Power BI. Experience using Power BI will be highly regarded, while experience supporting an implementation would be particularly beneficial.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Owning the forecasting process and providing regular re-projections across the business
- Supporting the annual budgeting and wider financial planning process
- Developing and maintaining complex, multi-layered financial models
- Analysing financial and operational data to identify trends, risks, opportunities and key business drivers
- Developing dashboards and performance reporting for senior management
- Presenting financial insights and recommendations to senior stakeholders
- Translating complex financial information into clear and commercially relevant insights
- Building and enhancing reporting tools to improve visibility of business performance
- Supporting the development and implementation of Power BI and broader business intelligence capability
- Partnering with stakeholders across the organisation to improve financial understanding and ownership of performance data
- Identifying opportunities to improve financial planning, reporting processes and data quality
- Supporting wider finance and data improvement initiatives as required
This role will suit someone who enjoys getting into the detail, understands how the numbers fit together and can then step back and communicate the story clearly to senior stakeholders.
Your Profile
To be successful in this role, you'll be an experienced FP&A or commercial finance professional with strong financial modelling capability and a genuine interest in using data to support better decision-making.
You will be someone who takes ownership of the data and is confident partnering with the business rather than simply producing reports.
You will ideally possess:
- Strong financial modelling and Excel capability
- Experience building and working with complex financial models and multiple layers of data or stakeholders
- Proven experience owning or leading forecasting processes
- Experience supporting budgeting and financial planning activities
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with excellent attention to detail
- The ability to translate complex financial information into clear and practical business insights
- Strong stakeholder management and business partnering skills
- Experience supporting or implementing Power BI would be highly regarded
This is a great opportunity for an experienced FP&A professional who enjoys complex modelling, working closely with senior stakeholders and improving the way a business uses financial data.
