JOB TITLE: FPGA DESIGN ENGINEER
DEPARTMENT: RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
LOCATION: This is an office-based role at our headquarters outside Falmouth in Cornwall.
HOURS OF WORK: 37.5 hours per week with flexi time available
SALARY: Competitive salary, dependent on skills and experience, plus an attractive benefits package.
(Please note: this role is open to receiving applications from talented graduates with relevant project experience, or more established engineers looking for a new opportunity in professional audio)
Job Summary
As an FPGA Design Engineer, you will develop complex FPGA solutions for Allen & Heath’s professional digital audio products, taking designs from initial specification through implementation, verification and hardware bring-up. The role combines high-quality, reusable RTL design with robust verification and close collaboration across the wider hardware and software teams.
This role combines deep technical ownership with collaborative product development. You’ll often spend extended periods focused on complex FPGA design and verification challenges, whilst also working closely with engineers across FPGA, DSP, electronics and embedded software disciplines to deliver world-class professional audio products.
Key Duties
This role is suited to an engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems, working collaboratively and seeing designs progress from concept through to working hardware. An interest in audio technology is valuable, and direct professional-audio experience would be an advantage rather than a requirement.
Design and implement FPGA solutions for next-generation professional audio products, combining existing IP with new RTL development using VHDL on AMD Xilinx FPGA (Lattice and GOWIN) platforms.
Develop high-quality, reusable and maintainable code while pushing the device in terms of area and timing constraints. With a focus on performance, resource utilization, timing closure, and long-term scalability.
Create and maintain robust simulation and verification environments using ModelSim/Questor, OSVVM, and modern FPGA verification methodologies.
Perform synthesis, implementation, static timing analysis and timing constraint development using industry-standard FPGA design toolchains such as Vivado, Lattice Diamon, and Gowin EDA.
Collaborate closely with Electronics, DSP, Embedded Software and Product Engineering teams to develop integrated system solutions.
Collaborate with mechanical design engineers on thermal testing
From project commencement, participants will be involved in technical reviews, architecture discussions, and cross-functional project activities, contributing expertise throughout the product development lifecycle.
Support schematic development, PCB integration, FPGA bring-up and hardware-level debugging alongside hardware engineers.
Produce clear and effective technical documentation covering FPGA implementation, verification activities, and software interfaces.
Technical documentation is clear and enables effective collaboration across hardware and software disciplines.
Investigate emerging FPGA technologies, devices and design methodologies to support future product architecture decisions and technology selection.
Continuous integration w/ Jenkins.
Ensuring successful system integration by complete timing constraints using SDC (synopsis design constraints)
Benefits & Rewards
At Allen & Heath, we recognise that great people create great products.
In return for your expertise, we offer a competitive reward package including offering a competitive salary, company performance-based bonus, enhanced employer pension contribution, life assurance, increasing holiday entitlement, option to purchase additional holiday, ongoing professional development and the opportunity to work on technology that powers world-class audio systems used across the globe
Beyond the benefits package, you’ll have the opportunity to work on industry-leading audio technology alongside talented engineers and specialists whose innovations power some of the world’s most recognised live, installed and broadcast audio environments.
Our Culture
At Allen & Heath, we combine the focus and technical depth of a specialist engineering team with the collaboration of a multidisciplinary product development environment. You’ll be trusted to take ownership of your work, contribute ideas, and work alongside experts in FPGA, DSP, electronics and software engineering to develop products used by audio professionals worldwide.
