What they need
FPGA Hardware Verification & Test Engineer
Location: El Segundo, California (Hybrid)
Contract: Contract opportunity
Start Date: Immediately
Pay Rate: Up to $75/hour
We’re partnering with an innovative space technology company in El Segundo, California, to find an experienced FPGA Hardware Verification & Test Engineer to support the integration and testing of advanced electronic systems.
This is an opportunity to work hands-on with FPGA- and system-on-chip (SoC)-based hardware, helping ensure complex digital systems perform as intended and meet demanding engineering requirements.
Working alongside FPGA designers, systems engineers and hardware specialists, you’ll play an important role in bringing designs to life, testing them on real hardware, troubleshooting issues and supporting verification throughout the product development lifecycle.
If you enjoy solving complex technical problems in a hardware lab environment and working across FPGA, embedded systems and aerospace technology, this could be a great fit.
What you’ll be doing
- Hardware verification and testing: Develop and execute requirements-based test plans and procedures for FPGA- and SoC-based systems.
- FPGA integration: Support hardware bring-up, system integration and on-target testing using engineering and production-representative hardware.
- Laboratory testing: Set up and operate equipment such as oscilloscopes, logic analysers, signal generators and power supplies.
- Troubleshooting: Investigate unexpected hardware behaviour, identify anomalies and contribute to root-cause analysis.
- Test automation: Develop scripts and tools to automate test execution, collect data and analyse results.
- Interface testing: Verify digital communications and control interfaces, potentially including Ethernet, MIL-STD-1553 and ARINC 429.
- Technical documentation: Record test procedures, results, discrepancies and verification evidence, maintaining clear and traceable engineering records.
- Cross-functional collaboration: Work closely with FPGA design, systems, verification and hardware engineering teams to resolve issues and keep testing on track.
- Continuous verification: Support regression testing following design updates and hardware changes, ensuring results remain reliable and repeatable.
For a more senior engineer, there will also be opportunities to shape test strategies, review technical deliverables and provide guidance to other engineers.
What we’re looking for
We’re keen to speak with engineers who combine strong technical fundamentals with practical experience testing complex electronic hardware.
Essential experience:
- A degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electronics, Computer Science or a related technical discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Hands-on experience with FPGA/SoC technologies, digital electronics or embedded computing systems.
- Experience developing and executing verification or validation tests against technical requirements.
- Practical experience troubleshooting digital hardware or embedded electronic systems in a laboratory environment.
- Ability to interpret system and hardware requirements and translate them into clear, executable test procedures.
- Experience documenting test results, identifying discrepancies and communicating technical findings.
- Confidence collaborating with multidisciplinary engineering teams.
Experience that would be particularly valuable
You don’t need to tick every box, but experience in any of the following would be advantageous:
- Aerospace, space systems, avionics, defence or other safety-critical applications.
- Python scripting for test automation, data acquisition or analysis.
- LabVIEW, MATLAB, C or C#.
- Digital interfaces and communication protocols, including Ethernet, MIL-STD-1553 or ARINC 429.
- Analogue and mixed-signal testing, signal integrity or hardware interfacing.
- Automated laboratory test environments and test equipment configuration.
- Reading electrical schematics, timing diagrams, interface control documents and FPGA technical documentation.
- Requirements management, defect tracking, configuration control or formal qualification testing.
Senior-level candidates with extensive experience who can lead test activities, review engineering outputs and mentor other engineers are particularly welcome.
Why consider this opportunity?
- Work on technically challenging hardware within the space and aerospace technology sector.
- Get hands-on exposure to FPGA and SoC integration, verification and system-level testing.
- Collaborate with experienced engineers across multiple disciplines.
- Contribute throughout the hardware development lifecycle, from integration and troubleshooting through to verification and regression testing.
- Join on a contract basis, with a rate of up to $75/hour.
Interested?
If you have experience in FPGA testing, digital hardware verification, embedded systems or aerospace electronics, we’d love to hear from you.
