What they need
About Burke Financial
At Burke Financial, we help female-owned, service-based businesses understand their numbers and use them to build more profitable, sustainable businesses.
Our clients are creative entrepreneurs, coaches, consultants, and service providers who are ready to move beyond simply knowing what happened financially. They want to understand what's ahead, make smarter decisions, and build businesses that support the lives they want to live.
That's where we come in. Through bookkeeping and fractional CFO services, we give business owners the financial clarity, strategy, and support they need to make confident decisions.
We're looking for someone who believes financial strategy should feel approachable, practical, and genuinely useful, not intimidating or overly complicated.
The Role
We're looking for a Fractional CFO & Financial Strategist who can independently manage client relationships and lead the financial strategy process from analysis through implementation.
You'll work directly with business owners to understand their goals, evaluate financial performance, build forecasts, and turn the numbers into clear, actionable recommendations. You'll lead monthly strategy calls, proactively identify opportunities and risks, and help clients make informed decisions about profitability, cash flow, hiring, and growth.
This is a client-facing role that requires both strong financial skills and the ability to communicate them effectively. We need someone who can build a thoughtful financial model, explain what it means in plain English, and confidently guide a client through their options.
You'll own your client relationships, manage your work independently, and collaborate with the bookkeeping team to ensure your recommendations are grounded in accurate financial data.
What You'll Do
Lead Client Financial Strategy
- Independently manage an assigned portfolio of fractional CFO clients.
- Lead monthly financial strategy meetings and guide conversations around performance, priorities, and upcoming decisions.
- Prepare meeting agendas, financial summaries, and clear action plans.
- Help business owners understand their numbers and connect financial performance to their larger business goals.
- Develop customized recommendations based on each client's business model, financial position, and priorities.
- Follow up on strategic initiatives and agreed-upon next steps.
- Build trusted relationships that position Burke Financial as a valued financial partner.
Build Forecasts & Financial Models
- Develop and maintain sales projections, budgets, and cash flow forecasts.
- Build financial models that help clients understand their future financial position.
- Evaluate different scenarios, including hiring, contractor support, pricing changes, new offers, and business investments.
- Identify potential cash flow gaps and help clients plan ahead for large expenses and seasonal fluctuations.
- Model expected revenue, expenses, margins, and profitability.
- Help clients determine appropriate cash reserves and make informed decisions about spending and owner compensation.
- Update forecasts as business conditions change and communicate the implications of those changes.
Analyze Financial Performance
- Review monthly financial statements and evaluate trends in revenue, expenses, margins, and profitability.
- Develop and monitor meaningful financial KPIs and dashboards.
- Identify overspending, declining margins, cash flow concerns, and opportunities to improve financial performance.
- Analyze sales performance and the financial impact of different revenue streams or service offerings.
- Evaluate employee and contractor costs, staffing decisions, and other major operating expenses.
- Translate financial data into concise, understandable insights and prioritized recommendations.
- Proactively bring opportunities and concerns to clients rather than waiting for them to ask.
Own Client Deliverables & Processes
- Maintain accurate, organized financial models, dashboards, forecasts, and client documentation.
- Manage timelines and deliverables across an assigned portfolio of clients.
- Coordinate with the bookkeeping team to resolve discrepancies that affect financial reporting.
- Ensure reports and forecasts are prepared before strategy meetings.
- Document recommendations, decisions, assumptions, and follow-up items.
- Develop and improve financial templates, reporting packages, and internal CFO workflows.
- Communicate proactively when information is missing or a project requires additional input.
Collaborate Across the Firm
- Partner with bookkeepers to ensure financial analysis is based on reliable, reconciled data.
- Help identify when a client needs bookkeeping cleanup before financial planning can move forward.
- Share relevant financial insights with the team and flag issues that may require additional attention.
- Contribute to the development of Burke Financial's CFO services, processes, and client experience.
- Coordinate with CPAs, tax professionals, and other advisors when appropriate and within the scope of the engagement.
What We're Looking For
- Meaningful experience in financial analysis, FP&A, accounting, fractional CFO services, or a comparable financial advisory role.
- Strong understanding of financial statements, cash flow management, budgeting, forecasting, and profitability analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to build financial models and turn analysis into practical business recommendations.
- Advanced Excel or Google Sheets skills.
- Experience with Xero, QuickBooks Online, and financial reporting tools is a plus.
- Familiarity with small-business software and financial tools such as Xero, Stripe, Dubsado, HoneyBook, Notion, Gusto, and Double is a plus.
- Comfortable navigating multiple platforms, understanding how systems connect, and using information from different tools to support financial reporting, forecasting, and strategic decision-making.
- Quick to learn new software and identify opportunities to improve client workflows, reporting, and financial visibility.
- Strong business judgment and the ability to understand how financial decisions affect day-to-day operations and long-term growth.
- Excellent communication skills and confidence leading client meetings.
- Ability to explain financial concepts in plain language to business owners who aren't financial experts.
- Strong organization, time management, and project ownership.
- Ability to manage multiple client relationships independently and meet recurring deadlines.
- A proactive, solutions-oriented mindset and a high standard for client service.
- Comfort working independently in a remote environment while collaborating with a team.
Experience working with creative entrepreneurs, professional service businesses, agencies, coaches, or consultants is especially valuable.
You'll Thrive Here If...
- You love connecting the dots between the numbers and the business decisions behind them.
- You can confidently lead a client conversation, even when the answer isn't straightforward.
- You enjoy building forecasts but also know how to turn them into meaningful action.
- You think ahead, anticipate problems, and bring solutions to the table.
- You can balance strategic thinking with the details required to execute well.
- You communicate in a way that makes financial information feel approachable and empowering.
- You take ownership of your clients' experience and follow through on what you promise.
- You want to help business owners build businesses that are not only profitable, but sustainable.
What Success Looks Like
- Clients receive timely, accurate, and useful financial reporting and forecasts.
- Strategy meetings lead to clear decisions, prioritized recommendations, and concrete next steps.
- Clients understand their financial position and feel more confident making business decisions.
- Cash flow risks and profitability opportunities are identified early.
- Forecasts reflect current business conditions and support real planning decisions.
- Client relationships are managed proactively, with consistent communication and follow-through.
- Recommendations are documented and revisited to evaluate progress.
- The CFO service delivers a consistent, high-quality experience without requiring the business owner to manage every client relationship.
