Freelance Assistant Quantity Surveyor

Job Summary

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Freelance Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join our dynamic team on a flexible basis. In this role, you will support the commercial team with cost estimation, budgeting and financial control across a range of construction projects. Working alongside experienced Quantity Surveyors, you will help ensure projects stay within budget, resources are used efficiently and financial risks are minimised. Responsibilities

• Assist in preparing cost estimates and budgets for construction projects, from initial design through to completion
• Support the monitoring of project expenditure and help implement cost control measures to prevent overruns
• Carry out quantity take-offs and assist with the analysis of tender documents to ensure full scope coverage
• Liaise with project managers, contractors and suppliers to obtain quotations and support cost negotiations
• Help track changes in project scope and assist with updating financial forecasts
• Assist in reviewing contractor claims, variations and invoices to check costs and support accurate payments
• Maintain accurate records of financial transactions, reports and cost-related documentation

Requirements

• Previous experience as an Assistant Quantity Surveyor or in a similar role within the construction industry
• Good understanding of cost control techniques and financial management principles
• Strong analytical skills, with close attention to detail in budgeting and estimating
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications and contract documents
• Clear and effective communication skills for liaising with contractors, suppliers and the wider project team
• A relevant qualification in Quantity Surveying, or currently working towards one (e.g. degree, HNC/HND or RICS pathway)

Pay: £20.00-£25.00 per hour
