Freelance Data Engineer | Cloud & Data Platforms

I'm currently supporting a leading international technology company that is looking for an experienced Freelance Data Engineer to join its growing Data Engineering team in Brussels.

The organisation develops innovative enterprise software solutions, helping businesses manage, govern and maximise the value of their data. Operating in an international, data-driven environment, the company continues to invest in modern cloud technologies, scalable data platforms and AI-driven solutions.

As a Data Engineer, you will contribute to the development, optimisation and maintenance of cloud-based data infrastructure, supporting business-critical applications, analytics and data products.

You will collaborate with data engineers, data architects, software developers and other technical stakeholders to build reliable, scalable and efficient data solutions.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes.
• Build and optimise cloud-based data solutions.
• Integrate data from multiple internal and external sources.
• Develop data processing and automation solutions using Python and SQL.
• Work with modern data warehouses, data lakes and cloud data platforms.
• Improve data quality, reliability, performance and accessibility.
• Support data modelling and transformation processes.
• Automate data workflows and contribute to CI/CD processes.
• Monitor, troubleshoot and optimise existing data pipelines.
• Collaborate with engineers, analysts and business stakeholders.
• Contribute to data security, governance and documentation initiatives.
• Support the ongoing development and modernisation of the organisation's data ecosystem.

Profile

We are looking for an experienced Data Engineer with a strong technical background and hands-on experience with modern data technologies.

Core requirements

• Experience as a Data Engineer, Cloud Data Engineer, Data Platform Engineer or similar.
• Strong knowledge of Python and SQL.
• Experience building and maintaining ETL/ELT pipelines.
• Hands-on experience with AWS, GCP, Azure or another major cloud platform.
• Good understanding of data modelling, data warehousing and data integration.
• Familiarity with data orchestration and workflow automation.
• Experience with Git and modern software engineering practices.
• Understanding of data quality, security and governance principles.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and communication skills.
• Comfortable working in an international engineering environment.

Nice to have

Experience with one or more of the following technologies would be considered an advantage:

• AWS services such as S3, Glue, Lambda, Redshift or Athena.
• Google Cloud Platform and BigQuery.
• Snowflake, Databricks or other cloud data platforms.
• Apache Airflow, dbt, Apache Spark or PySpark.
• Terraform or other Infrastructure as Code technologies.
• Docker, Kubernetes or containerised workloads.
• CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
• Data governance, metadata management or data cataloguing.
• AI/ML data pipelines.

You do not need experience with every technology listed above. We are open to considering candidates from different cloud and data engineering backgrounds.
