Freelance Estimator

Lee Marley Brickwork is seeking an experienced Freelance Estimator to support the preparation of accurate, competitive and commercially sound tenders for brickwork and associated façade packages across projects in Scotland.

The role involves reviewing tender documentation, undertaking detailed quantity take-offs, obtaining supplier and subcontractor quotations, and preparing estimates for brickwork façades, masonry support systems, brick slip systems and Steel Framing Systems (SFS).

Working closely with the management and commercial teams, the successful candidate will help ensure tenders are accurately priced, risks are identified and submissions are completed within agreed deadlines. Site visits across Scotland may be required.

Key Responsibilities

• Review tender enquiries, architectural and structural drawings, specifications and supporting documentation.
• Undertake accurate quantity take-offs and digital measurements using Bluebeam Revu.
• Prepare estimates for brickwork façades, masonry support systems, brick slips and SFS packages.
• Calculate material quantities, labour allowances, wastage and associated costs.
• Obtain and assess supplier and subcontractor quotations to support competitive tender pricing.
• Identify discrepancies, scope gaps, missing information and potential commercial risks.
• Maintain accurate records of estimates, calculations, quotations, assumptions and exclusions.
• Liaise with management and commercial teams regarding tender requirements, progress and queries.
• Identify potential value engineering opportunities and assist with tender revisions where required.
• Undertake site visits across Scotland when required to assess project requirements and support estimating activities.
• Ensure estimates are completed accurately and within agreed tender deadlines.

Skills and Competencies

• Strong numerical, analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Good understanding of brickwork and façade construction methods.
• Ability to interpret architectural and structural drawings and technical specifications.
• Competent in Bluebeam Revu and Microsoft Excel.
• Good commercial awareness and understanding of estimating principles.
• Strong organisational and time-management skills.
• Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
• Effective communication and relationship-building skills.

Essential Requirements

• Proven experience in construction estimating and quantity take-offs.
• Experience in brickwork and façade estimating.
• Understanding of brickwork materials, masonry support systems and associated construction methods.
• Experience using Bluebeam Revu or equivalent digital take-off software.
• Ability to prepare accurate estimates and supporting tender documentation.
• Ability to work independently and deliver within agreed timescales.
• Full, valid UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project sites across Scotland when required.

Desirable Experience

• Experience estimating masonry support systems, brick slip systems and SFS.
• Experience pricing labour, materials, plant and access equipment.
• Experience obtaining and reviewing supplier and subcontractor quotations.
• Knowledge of value engineering and cost optimisation.
• Experience working on large-scale commercial or residential construction projects.
• Understanding of façade detailing and interfaces with other trades.
• Knowledge of current material prices, supplier lead times and market conditions.
• Familiarity with additional estimating and cost-management software.
