About the Role

Unified Brainz Virtuoso Limited (UB Group) is looking for an experienced Freelance Magazine & Publication Designer who has strong hands-on expertise in Adobe InDesign and understands the complete process of designing professional magazines and editorial publications.

The ideal freelancer should be comfortable taking a magazine from content and design brief to final print-ready artwork, with a strong understanding of editorial layouts, typography, image placement, visual hierarchy, advertisements, covers, and overall publication aesthetics.

This role is ideal for a designer who has previously worked with magazines, publishing houses, media companies, advertising agencies, or editorial publications and can independently manage publication design projects with minimal supervision.

Key ResponsibilitiesMagazine & Editorial Design

• Design complete magazines and publications using Adobe InDesign.
• Develop professional and visually engaging cover designs, editorial layouts, feature pages, interview pages, profiles, articles, and special sections.
• Convert written content into clean, attractive, and easy-to-read editorial layouts.
• Maintain consistency in typography, spacing, grids, margins, alignment, and visual hierarchy throughout the publication.
• Work with photographs, graphics, illustrations, charts, and other visual elements to create engaging pages.
• Design layouts for different types of editorial content while maintaining the overall identity of the magazine.
• Create and maintain consistent master pages, paragraph styles, character styles, grids, and layout systems where required.
• Design and place advertisements, promotional pages, brand features, and sponsored/editorial content within the magazine.
• Create visually strong opening pages, section dividers, contents pages, mastheads, and other publication elements.

Cover & Creative Direction

• Develop creative concepts for magazine covers based on the theme, featured personality, brand, or issue.
• Select and position images, typography, headlines, and supporting elements effectively.
• Create multiple cover concepts when required.
• Ensure the final cover reflects a premium, professional, and publication-ready look.

Print & Production

• Prepare final artwork according to professional print-production standards.
• Ensure correct page size, bleed, margins, image resolution, color settings, fonts, and file specifications.
• Check the complete publication carefully for alignment, typography, spacing, image quality, pagination, and other design errors before final delivery.
• Prepare high-quality print-ready PDFs and other required output files.
• Make corrections and revisions based on editorial or management feedback.
• Ensure the final files are properly organized and ready for printing or digital publishing.

Collaboration

• Coordinate with the Content, Editorial, Creative, Marketing, and Management teams to understand publication requirements.
• Work with supplied content, photographs, advertisements, and brand assets.
• Communicate clearly regarding design requirements, timelines, revisions, and technical specifications.
• Take ownership of the assigned publication/project from initial layout to final delivery.

Depending on project requirements, the freelancer may also be required to design:

• Company profiles
• Coffee table books
• Brochures
• Annual reports
• Brand books
• Media kits
• Event publications
• Advertisements
• Promotional creatives
• Digital versions of publications

Required SkillsEssential

• Strong hands-on experience with Adobe InDesign
• Proven experience designing complete magazines/publications
• Strong knowledge of editorial and publication layout
• Excellent understanding of:

• Page sequencing and pagination
• Good command of Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator

• Experience with publishing houses, media companies, magazines, or advertising agencies
• Experience designing premium/luxury/business/lifestyle magazines

• Basic understanding of motion/video design
• Familiarity with AI-assisted creative tools and modern design workflows

Portfolio Requirement

Portfolio is mandatory.

• Advertisements within Publications
• Corporate/Business Publications
• Brochures & Profiles
• Coffee Table Books or Similar Publications

Candidates without relevant magazine/publication design work in their portfolio will not be considered.
