Who Fibe is:

We are an early-stage biotech startup on a mission to develop the next generation of materials to lead the fashion industry through its green transition. We are achieving this by developing scalable, affordable and sustainable textile fibres out of agricultural waste streams.

The start-up has been running since the founders graduated in August 2022, we have been fortunate enough to gain significant traction: we have been awarded £1.9M in government funded projects & competitions, raised £3m in Seed investment and recently secured over £500k in industry funding.

Furthermore we have received letters of support from major fashion companies, textile mills and agricultural engineering companies. We have now recently opened our Seed investment round, allowing us to scale up our production through a demonstration plant.

We are the first to ever work with potato harvest waste, our proprietary technology is patent pending and at TRL4. This technology platform also works on multiple other agricultural waste streams that we have been able to prove at the lab scale.

Job role:

The role will involve production of fibres from potato harvest waste for trials in line with Fibe’s ongoing R&D and scale up. The work will happen in person in our lab in central London.

The position is freelance and therefore there is substantial flexibility to work around the successful candidates availability. We therefore encourage students and part-time workers to consider applying.

What we are looking for:

We are looking for someone who is:

• Punctual and organised
• Has good attention to detail
• Can communicate well

Skills in biochemistry, engineering and data management are preferred although not necessary.

Key Tasks

• Operating bench top machinery
• Setting up and removing of bio-processes
• Operating fibre refining machinery
• Collection of data for key processes and output
• Organisation of space, feedstocks and outputs
• Following SOP's and Methods to ensure quality and efficiency
• Collaboration with other departments and team members

If you are successful

If we think there is potential for a good fit, we will ask you to sign an NDA and invite you to visit our lab. We will run a “taster” session of what you would be doing on your day-to-day to ensure all parties are satisfied. This session will last approximately 1.5 hours, no preparation is required.
