What they need

Are you a tutor, teacher or HLTA with experience working with young people with a range of SEMH needs? Want to make a real difference through personalised tutoring with young people who need you most?

Based in Swindon, this is a flexible, part-time position offering £20-25 per hour depending on experience, with hours likely to be inside education hours and term time only. This is a freelance tutor role which would be undertaken on a self-employed basis. Ideally, tutors would be able to commit to a day a week for at least a term at a time.

The Platform Project is an innovative social enterprise dedicated to empowering disadvantaged and vulnerable young people with the skills, confidence, and experience they need to build a sustainable future. Working closely with local authorities, education institutes and local employers, our unique concept of a ‘training workplace’ bridges the gap between education and employment.

We’re seeking Tutors to support our young people with core educational learning in the likes of Maths and English (GCSE and Functional Skills) as well as catch-up sessions on education they may be missing from not attending full-time education.

The full role profile can be found on our website, but key roles and responsibilities will include:

  • Providing 1:1 tutoring support for our students, many with additional learning needs (ASC, ADHD).
  • Assessing the student’s ability and gauging their level of need during tutoring sessions.
  • Building trust and adapting your approach to deliver an engaging curriculum.
  • Using innovative and creative learning techniques to motivate students effectively.

We would love to hear from you if you have the following:

  • A minimum of two years’ experience in tutoring or teaching young people.
  • Experience with functional skills and/or GCSE Maths & English.
  • Expertise in working with young people who have additional learning or SEMH needs.
  • The ability to develop customised learning plans and resources.

The Platform Project is committed to safeguarding and promoting the safety and welfare of children and young people. The appointment is subject to an enhanced DBS check (including a check against the Children's Barred List) and satisfactory references.

How to Apply:
If this sounds like the ideal role for you, please submit your CV. Following an initial review, candidates progressing to the next stage will be invited to complete an application form. Alternatively, you can contact The Platform Project to find out more.
