Freight Forwarding Manager

JOB DESCRIPTIONS

• Support P&L Head in driving business growth, operational efficiency, and the overall development of the Ocean Freight department in alignment with the company’s strategic objectives and profitability goals.
• Oversee daily ocean freight import and export operations, including customer service activities, to ensure smooth operations, timely shipment handling, and high service quality standards.
• Ensure compliance with established SOPs and customer requirements, while monitoring shipment performance, resolving operational issues, and implementing continuous process improvements to enhance customer satisfaction.
• Lead, coach, and develop the Ocean Freight Operations and Customer Service teams, fostering a collaborative, accountable, and high-performing work environment while identifying training needs and improving team performance.
• Establish and maintain strong working relationships with shipping lines, carriers, and logistics service provider, including negotiating competitive freight rates, securing capacity, and ensuring service quality.
• Oversee accurate and timely shipment billing, costing, and financial transactions to ensure smooth month-end closing and financial reporting.
• Monitor departmental financial performance, including cost-to-sales ratios, gross profit margins, accounts receivable, and operational expenses, while identifying cost-saving opportunities to improve profitability.
• Ensure compliance with Malaysian customs regulations, shipping requirements, internal policies, quality assurance standards, and applicable legal requirements, while identifying and mitigating operational risks.
• Collaborative closely with Sales, Finance, overseas office, and other internal departments to ensure seamless coordination, effective service delivery, and achievement of business objectives.
• Prepare and review operational reports, monitor departmental KPIs, evaluate team and operational performance, and provide recommendations to Management for continuous improvement.
• Identifying opportunities to enhance operational capabilities, streamline workflows, improve productivity, and strengthen the overall competitiveness of the Ocean Freight department.
• Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Management to support departmental and organizational objectives.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

• Minimum 6 – 8 years of relevant working experience in ocean freight forwarding operations and customer service, preferably with supervisory or managerial experience.
• Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of ocean freight import and export operations, Malaysian customs procedures, shipping documentation, carrier coordination, freight forwarding processes, and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Proven leadership and people management skills, with the ability to lead, motivate, coach and develop a high-performing team while managing daily operational priorities.
• Good commercial and financial understanding of freight pricing, shipment costing, billing, profitability management, and accounts receivable, with the ability to support departmental business objectives.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, negotiation, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to build effective relationships with customers, shipping lines, vendors, and internal stakeholders.
• Familiarity with operational SOPs, quality management standards, and risk management practices, with proficiency in freight forwarding systems such as Aldec, SealNet, MyCIEDS, and Microsoft Offices.
• Independent, proactive, result-oriented, and detail-oriented, with the ability to work under pressure, manage multiple priorities, and balance operational excellence, customer satisfaction, team development, and departmental profitability.
