Freight Forwarding Operation Manager

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Freight Forwarding Operation Manager to join our team in the North-East Region. This is a full-time position that plays a crucial role in overseeing the day-to-day operations of our freight forwarding services. As Operation Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring efficient, cost-effective and compliant freight forwarding operations whilst maintaining the highest standards of customer service. This role is essential to our strategic objectives of delivering reliable logistics solutions and expanding our market presence in the freight forwarding sector.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee and manage daily freight forwarding operations, including import, export and cross-border shipments
• Monitor shipment progress, track cargo movements and ensure timely delivery of goods to customers
• Coordinate with shipping lines, airlines, customs brokers and other logistics partners to facilitate smooth operations
• Manage and optimise warehouse operations, including storage, handling and inventory management
• Ensure compliance with international shipping regulations, customs requirements and safety standards
• Handle customer queries and complaints professionally, providing solutions to maintain satisfaction and retention
• Prepare and review freight forwarding documentation, including bills of lading, customs declarations and invoices
• Recruit, train, supervise and develop operational staff, fostering a high-performing team environment
• Analyse operational metrics and KPIs to identify inefficiencies and implement improvements
• Manage operational budgets, control costs and maximise profitability of freight forwarding operations
• Liaise with senior management to report on operational performance and strategic initiatives

What we're looking for

• Minimum 5-7 years of experience in freight forwarding operations or logistics management
• Proven track record of successfully managing freight forwarding operations in a fast-paced environment
• Strong knowledge of international shipping procedures, customs regulations and trade documentation
• Proficiency in freight forwarding software systems and logistics management platforms
• Excellent organisational and time-management skills with the ability to juggle multiple tasks simultaneously
• Strong leadership and team management capabilities with the ability to motivate and develop staff
• Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with stakeholders
• Problem-solving mindset with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure
• Knowledge of safety regulations and commitment to maintaining health and safety standards
• Relevant qualifications such as IATA, FIATA or similar freight forwarding certifications are advantageous
• Familiarity with port operations and export-import procedures is preferred
