Job Overview

Responsibilities

• Provide interpretation services in Yoruba and English across multiple modalities including over-the-phone, simultaneous, consecutive, and educational interpretation settings.
• Accurately translate spoken or written content while maintaining the original message’s intent, tone, and cultural nuances.
• Facilitate effective communication during complex conversations by employing active listening, cultural competency, and linguistic skills.
• Uphold professional ethics by maintaining confidentiality, impartiality, and neutrality in all interactions.
• Assist with translation of documents or materials when required, ensuring linguistic accuracy and cultural appropriateness.
• Collaborate with clients and team members to prepare for interpretation sessions by understanding context and specific terminology.
• Demonstrate proficiency in interpreting American Sign Language if applicable, or coordinate with qualified interpreters for specialized needs.

Experience

• Proven experience in interpretation or translation within diverse settings such as healthcare, legal, educational, or community services.
• Multilingual proficiency in Yoruba and English with demonstrated ability in interpretation techniques including simultaneous, consecutive, and over-the-phone interpretation.
• Strong understanding of cultural nuances relevant to Yoruba-speaking communities to ensure respectful and effective communication.
• Familiarity with linguistic principles, translation practices, and interpretation ethics to deliver high-quality language services.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to adapt messaging for different audiences while maintaining clarity and professionalism.
• Prior experience working with bilingual or multilingual teams is preferred but not required; a passion for language access is essential.
