Job Overview

Kids First Swim School – Rockville is seeking a motivated, friendly, and experienced individual to join our team as a Front Desk Associate & Swim Instructor!

This dual-role position is perfect for someone who enjoys working with children, has a passion for water safety, and excels in customer service. You will play an important role both in and out of the pool, helping create a welcoming environment for families while teaching essential swimming and water safety skills.

The ideal candidate is energetic, organized, patient, and able to multitask in a fast-paced environment. Strong communication skills, a positive attitude, and the ability to connect with swimmers and families of all backgrounds are essential.

Bilingual candidates, particularly those fluent in English and Spanish, are strongly encouraged to apply.

Key ResponsibilitiesKey Responsibilities

• Greet and assist swimmers, parents, and visitors, creating a friendly and welcoming environment.
• Lead engaging and structured swim lessons for students of all ages and skill levels, following Kids First Swim School's curriculum.
• Manage student registration, enrollment, scheduling, and check-in/check-out procedures.
• Teach proper swimming techniques, essential water safety skills, and confidence-building activities.
• Answer phone calls, respond to inquiries, and provide accurate information about lessons, pricing, scheduling, and special events.
• Assess student abilities, monitor progress, and provide constructive feedback to swimmers and their families.
• Assist families with scheduling lessons, make-up classes, and other program-related needs.
• Adapt teaching methods to accommodate different learning styles, abilities, and individual student needs.
• Maintain a safe, positive, and encouraging learning environment while utilizing effective behavior management strategies.
• Maintain accurate student records, manage schedules, and complete daily administrative tasks.
• Promote swim lessons, special events, and additional programs offered by Kids First Swim School.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and professional front desk, lobby, and pool environment.
• Communicate effectively with parents, instructors, and management to ensure smooth daily operations and consistent lesson quality.
• Follow all facility safety procedures, emergency response protocols, and Kids First Swim School policies.
• Assist with aquatic activities, open swims, birthday parties, and special events as needed.
• Work collaboratively with team members and transition between front desk responsibilities and swim instruction based on operational needs.

Qualifications & Requirements

Required:

• Must be at least 21 years old.
• Minimum of 1 year of prior swim instruction experience.
• Strong understanding of swimming techniques and fundamental water safety principles.
• Experience working with children in a teaching, coaching, childcare, or educational environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong organizational, multitasking, and time management abilities.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
• Comfortable working both in an aquatic environment and in a customer-facing administrative role.
• Ability to maintain a professional, patient, and positive attitude when interacting with students, families, and coworkers.
• Willingness to learn and follow Kids First Swim School's curriculum, procedures, and safety standards.

Preferred:

• Previous front desk, administrative, or customer service experience.
• Current or previous lifeguard certification.
• Bilingual proficiency
• Experience with scheduling, registration, or customer management systems.
• Familiarity with positive behavior management techniques.
• Availability for evenings, weekends, and special events.

Work Environment

This is an in-person, dual-role position at Kids First Swim School – Rockville. Employees will divide their time between front desk responsibilities, swim instruction, and assisting with facility operations and events as needed.

Candidates must be comfortable transitioning between administrative duties and working directly with students in the pool.
