The Frontend Engineering Mentor will play a key role in supporting learner success and the overall quality of Hackademia’s Frontend Engineering programme. Beyond direct learner mentorship, the mentor will help learners develop strong software engineering fundamentals, build responsive and interactive web applications, and apply modern frontend development practices to real-world projects.

This role is ideal for experienced Frontend Engineers who are passionate about building production-ready web applications, solving technical problems, and supporting emerging software engineering talent.

Key Responsibilities

• Mentor learners through frontend engineering concepts and hands-on development projects
• Guide learners in building structured and responsive web interfaces using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
• Support learners in understanding modern JavaScript concepts and developing interactive web applications
• Guide learners in building frontend applications using frameworks such as React and Next.js
• Support learners in understanding component-based architecture, reusable components, and effective frontend code organisation
• Guide learners in managing application state and building scalable frontend experiences
• Support learners in integrating frontend applications with RESTful APIs and backend services
• Guide learners in debugging, troubleshooting, and resolving common frontend development issues
• Introduce learners to Git, GitHub, version control, and collaborative software development workflows
• Guide learners in responsive design, accessibility, browser compatibility, and modern web development best practices
• Support learners in improving frontend application performance and user experience
• Review learner assignments, coding projects, applications, and capstone submissions
• Provide constructive technical feedback and help learners improve their coding practices and problem-solving abilities
• Guide learners in deploying and maintaining frontend applications
• Provide career guidance and practical insights into working as a Frontend Engineer
• Provide feedback to the academic team to support curriculum improvement
• Collaborate with instructors and programme staff to ensure learning objectives are met

Requirements

• Proven professional experience in Frontend Engineering or modern web development
• Strong proficiency in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
• Practical experience with modern frontend frameworks, particularly React and/or Next.js
• Strong understanding of responsive web development and modern UI implementation
• Experience working with APIs and integrating frontend applications with backend services
• Strong understanding of component-based development, state management, and reusable code
• Experience with Git and GitHub or similar version control systems
• Practical knowledge of debugging, browser developer tools, and frontend performance optimisation
• Understanding of web accessibility and cross-browser development is an advantage
• Ability to explain technical concepts clearly and effectively to learners at different skill levels
• Strong problem-solving, communication, and mentoring skills
• Commitment to supporting learner development and programme success
• Prior mentoring, teaching, coaching, or facilitation experience is an added advantage
