Fuel & Lube Technician (Heavy Equipment)

McKee Utility Contractors | Austin / Hutto, TX

Job Type: Full-Time
Location: Field-Based | Multiple Construction Jobsites

Overview

McKee Utility Contractors is growing, and we're looking for a dependable, hardworking Fuel & Lube Technician to help keep our heavy equipment fleet running strong across our active construction projects.

This is a hands-on, field-based position where you'll operate a fuel and lube service truck, travel between jobsites, and play an important role in keeping our crews productive and equipment operating safely.

You'll work directly with heavy construction equipment, including excavators, dozers, loaders, haul trucks, graders, and rollers. From daily fueling and lubrication to preventive maintenance and equipment inspections, your work will help prevent costly breakdowns and keep our projects moving forward.

You don't need years of heavy equipment experience to be successful here. We're willing to train someone who has mechanical aptitude, a strong work ethic, and a willingness to learn.

If you enjoy working outdoors, operating equipment, and taking pride in keeping things running, we'd like to hear from you.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a fuel and lube service truck to fuel, grease, and service heavy construction equipment across multiple active jobsites.
  • Perform routine preventive maintenance, including oil changes, filter replacements, and fluid services on smaller equipment.
  • Inspect heavy equipment for leaks, worn components, damaged hoses, tire issues, undercarriage wear, and other potential maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Identify and report equipment issues before they result in costly repairs or downtime.
  • Operate and maintain service truck equipment, including fuel pumps, hoses, reels, and compressors.
  • Maintain accurate records of fuel usage, equipment hours, preventive maintenance services, and fluids dispensed.
  • Collect oil samples as part of equipment fluid analysis programs.
  • Safely handle, store, and dispose of fuels, oils, and waste fluids in accordance with environmental and safety requirements.
  • Maintain spill response equipment and follow established spill-prevention procedures.
  • Coordinate with superintendents and equipment operators to schedule servicing while minimizing interruptions to construction operations.
  • Follow company safety policies and applicable OSHA, DOT, and jobsite safety requirements.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • Clean driving record.
  • Ability to pass a DOT physical and required drug screening.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and familiarity with hand tools and lubrication equipment.
  • Ability to work independently and safely in an active construction environment.
  • Willingness to travel between local construction jobsites throughout the workday.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience fueling or servicing heavy construction equipment.
  • Basic diesel or heavy equipment mechanical experience.
  • Familiarity with preventive maintenance procedures.
  • Experience using fleet maintenance software or equipment telematics systems.

Heavy equipment fueling experience is a plus, but not required. Training is available for the right candidate.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment

  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, dust, and mud.
  • Regularly climb on and off heavy equipment, kneel, bend, crawl beneath machinery, and work in confined spaces.
  • Perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting and handling filters, buckets, and maintenance supplies.
  • Work safely around moving heavy equipment, fuels, oils, and construction operations.
  • Travel between multiple jobsites as part of daily responsibilities.

This position offers the opportunity to work directly with heavy construction equipment, develop valuable maintenance skills, and gain experience that can lead to advancement into Field Mechanic roles.
