About the Role

This is a hands-on field role at the heart of what we do. You’ll be installing, commissioning, and maintaining fuel systems across a wide range of sites from rural farm tanks and retail fuel stations to critical infrastructure for national operators. No two days or sites are the same.

Whether you’re starting out with a trade background and looking to break into fuel systems, or you’re an experienced installer ready to lead installs and mentor junior staff, we’re open to both. What matters most is that you show up, work safely, and take ownership of your work.

What You’ll Do

• Install above-ground and underground fuel tanks, ensuring structural and regulatory compliance from day one
• Lay and commission suction and pressurised fuel pipework (including aboveground stainless-steel and underground HDPE systems)
• Commission and test fuel dispensing equipment, bowsers, and monitoring systems
• Assist with or lead site preparation: set-out, concrete cutting, excavation, and site reinstatement
• Carry out decommissioning and clean-up of existing fuel sites, including tank removal
• Support diesel generator fuel system installs: above-ground pipework, day tanks, exhaust and ventilation
• Perform scheduled maintenance checks, fault-finding, and minor repairs on installed systems
• Complete accurate job records, compliance documentation, and handover paperwork
• Work safely in hazardous areas and always uphold Mansfield Group’s health & safety standards
• As you develop: take on lead-installer responsibilities, coach new team members, and liaise directly with site managers and project leads

What You’ll Bring

Essential

• Current, full New Zealand driver’s licence
• Practical problem-solving ability and strong attention to detail
• Comfort working in hazardous environments and following safe work practices
• Willingness to travel and work away from home (accommodation and meals covered)
• A reliable, team-first attitude with a strong work ethic

Desirable (one or more of the following)

• Prior fuel system installation or petroleum industry experience
• Trade background: mechanical fitting, plumbing, electrical, or construction
• HSNO Approved Handler or Site Supervisor certification (or willingness to obtain)
• Familiarity with SiteWise, ISN, or similar contractor management systems
• Experience reading and working from engineering drawings and compliance documentation

For Senior Applicants

• 5+ years in fuel system installation or related civil/mechanical trade
• Proven ability to manage installs end-to-end, including subcontractor coordination
• Track record of delivering compliant, high-quality outcomes on time and on budget
• Strong client-facing communication and documentation skills
