Full Stack Java Developer

We are looking for an Expert Java Full-Stack Developer fluent in German and English to join our team on a long-term engagement for a leading client in the energy and critical infrastructure sector. The ideal candidate has extensive experience building high-performance Java services for large data volumes, with strong Spring Boot , Kafka and Kubernetes skills, and is comfortable working across backend, frontend and operations.

The successful candidate will help take an existing vendor-run smart meter data platform in-house and modernise it step by step. The role covers development of high-performance Java services, maintenance and bug fixing, third-level support, operations on Kubernetes , monitoring, CI/CD and frontend work in Angular .

Responsibilities:

• Design, develop and optimise high-performance Java services that process large data volumes.
• Build and maintain Kafka and Kafka Streams based data processing.
• Maintain the existing platform, fix bugs and provide third-level support.
• Contribute to the step-by-step modernisation of a platform being taken over from an external vendor.
• Run and maintain services on Kubernetes using Docker containers.
• Set up and use monitoring and logging in Grafana and Splunk .
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps .
• Develop frontend features in Angular .
• Apply good design patterns, security practices and code quality standards.
• Work closely with the client's German-speaking team , architects and operations.

Requirements:

• 8+ years of professional Java development experience.
• 8+ years of experience with Spring Boot (or Quarkus / Jakarta EE).
• 6+ years of hands-on experience with Docker and Kubernetes .
• Experience with Kafka and/or Kafka Streams .
• Fluent German (C1 or higher) and English (C1 or higher ), both mandatory. Daily work is in German .
• Project references from the last 3 years that show your hands-on experience (topic, period, client, role and a short description), plus a CV in English.

Nice to have / Preferred Qualifications:

• Angular frontend development.
• Monitoring with Grafana and Splunk; CI/CD in Azure DevOps.
• Strong knowledge of design patterns.
• Experience with CI and application security.
• Relational and NoSQL databases.
• OpenShift or Microsoft Azure.
• Knowledge of power grids, energy markets or smart meter data.
