About Story Company
Hey! We’re Story Company—a people-driven creative company on a mission to illuminate the world with stories of truth, goodness, and beauty. We bring together designers, storytellers, and developers to create meaningful work for clients and audiences around the world.
Behind that work are the systems that help our teams stay organized, collaborate, and deliver. We’re looking for a developer who takes those systems seriously—someone who enjoys solving practical problems, cares about the people using their software, and takes pride in building things that work well.
Job Overview
We’re looking for a Full-Stack .NET Developer with 4+ years of professional experience to build, maintain, and improve Story Company’s internal web and desktop applications.
You’ll work across the Microsoft stack, from SQL Server and .NET APIs to Blazor interfaces, .NET MAUI applications, and Azure deployment. Your work will include taking ownership of existing applications, developing new features, and keeping our systems reliable as the company grows.
This is a hands-on role for someone who can understand a need, ask thoughtful questions, and carry a solution through development, testing, deployment, and ongoing support. You should be comfortable working independently while collaborating closely with our developers and the teams who use what you build.
Key Responsibilities
- Build features from end to end. Develop database schemas, EF Core data access, versioned REST APIs, and intuitive Blazor interfaces. Support and extend .NET MAUI desktop applications where needed.
- Take ownership of existing systems. Learn our applications and workflows, maintain what already works, and make thoughtful improvements without introducing unnecessary complexity.
- Keep our data layer dependable. Design and evolve SQL Server schemas, using SSDT database projects as the source of truth for database structure and changes.
- Deliver tested, maintainable software. Write unit and integration tests using tools such as xUnit, Moq, and Testcontainers. Maintain reliable build and deployment pipelines in Azure Pipelines and GitHub Actions.
- Build with security in mind. Implement authentication and authorization with Microsoft Entra ID, use Azure managed identities and Key Vault appropriately, and protect company data.
- Support what you ship. Monitor application behavior, investigate logs, identify root causes, and resolve production issues. Keep technical documentation and setup instructions useful and up to date.
- Collaborate and communicate clearly. Review pull requests, track work in Azure DevOps and GitHub, and work with internal teams to turn business needs into manageable development tasks.
- Use AI with judgment. Apply AI coding tools where they improve the work, provide clear context, and review and test their output. Remain accountable for the code you deliver.
Qualifications
- 4+ years of professional software development experience , primarily using C# and .NET, with examples of applications you have built, maintained, or significantly improved.
- Strong backend development skills with ASP.NET Core Web APIs, REST, API versioning, OpenAPI, dependency injection, and layered or clean architecture.
- Frontend experience with Blazor Server or WebAssembly, or a component-based framework such as React, alongside solid HTML, CSS, and JavaScript skills. Developers coming from another framework should be ready to work in Blazor.
- Strong database fundamentals with SQL Server, T-SQL, and EF Core, including designing schemas and managing changes safely.
- Experience writing automated tests , including unit and integration tests with xUnit or a comparable framework.
- Practical Azure and identity experience , including Azure SQL, Key Vault, managed identities, and OAuth or OpenID Connect with Microsoft Entra ID.
- Confidence with collaborative development workflows , including Git, pull-request reviews, and CI/CD through Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
- Practical understanding of large language models and AI-assisted development. You use tools such as Claude Code, Codex, GitHub Copilot, or similar effectively, understand their limitations, and stay informed as models and tools evolve. You can choose an appropriate tool for a task, provide useful context, and evaluate the results.
- Clear written and spoken English , with the ability to explain technical decisions, ask good questions, and work constructively with technical and nontechnical colleagues.
Nice to Have
Experience with the following would be helpful, but is not required:
- Telerik UI for Blazor or a similar component library.
- SSDT database projects and DACPAC deployments.
- .NET MAUI or other Windows desktop development.
- PDF generation and rendering with tools such as iText and PDF.js.
- XML schemas, validation, and signing.
- Container-based integration testing with Testcontainers and Docker.
- Hybrid on-premises and Azure hosting, including Azure Arc.
Why Story Company?
Meaningful ownership. Build tools your colleagues rely on and clients adore.
A collaborative team. Work alongside people from different disciplines who care about quality, purpose, and helping one another succeed.
Room to grow. We are growing fast. Like, REALLY fast. And with that growth is a ton of room for advancement. Deepen your technical skills, contribute to architectural decisions, and help improve how we build and maintain software as the company develops.
Are You a Great Fit?
You’re someone who cares about more than getting a feature across the finish line. You want to understand the problem, make the experience better for the person using it, and leave the codebase easier for the next developer to work with.
You don’t need someone to prescribe every step, but you know when to ask questions, seek feedback, or raise a concern. You’re comfortable improving an existing system—not just starting a new one—and you can balance steady progress with careful engineering.
We care less about the certificates you’ve collected and more about what you can build, how you think, and how you work with others. Be prepared to share relevant examples and talk through your decisions, your contributions, and what you learned along the way. That emphasis on demonstrated ability and initiative has long been part of Story’s approach to hiring developers.
Above all, you take pride in your craft. Whether you write the code yourself or use AI to help, you understand it, stand behind it, and care about the people who depend on it.
Benefits
- Competitive pay based on experience.
- A talented, supportive team and collaborative work environment.
- Two-day weekends.
- Lunch provided at the office.
- We love to have fun. Team outings, movie nights, social events, and all sorts of other fun.
Other offers great for you!
