What you'll do

Lead the numbers

• Own the books for multiple LLCs and apartment properties
• Lead and mentor the accounting team, including our Assistant Controller

Run the close

• Lead month-end, quarter-end and year-end close
• Keep the general ledger accurate, with correct accruals and journal entries

Tell the story behind the numbers

• Prepare GAAP-compliant P&Ls, Balance Sheets and Cash Flow Statements
• Build management reports and analyses for ownership, lenders and stakeholders

Connect the systems

• Keep ResMan and QuickBooks Online in sync
• Find and fix any differences between the two, including rent rolls, receivables and security deposits

Track property performance

• Track capital projects, renovations and unit turn costs across our apartment communities
• Keep property budgets and proformas up to date and run budget-vs-actual analysis
• Analyze property NOI, margins and profitability

Protect the company

• Monitor cash flow, working capital, liabilities and AR/AP aging
• Strengthen internal controls and help prevent fraud
• Lead audit preparation

Keep daily operations running

• Oversee bank and credit card reconciliations
• Manage intercompany accounting and consolidations
• Coordinate payroll and tax compliance
• Calculate property bonuses and other payments

Must-haves

• Advanced QuickBooks Online skills. You know reconciliations, reporting and controls inside QBO.
• Multifamily accounting experience. You've done full-cycle accounting for apartment communities.
• Comfort with AI tools. You already use ChatGPT, Claude or similar tools, or you're eager to learn. You look for ways to automate and simplify work.
• Strong communication. You write and speak clearly with owners, lenders, vendors and the team.
• Independence. You stay organized, focused and productive working remotely.

Bonus points

• Experience with a large multifamily portfolio
• Knowledge of California real estate accounting
• Experience with multiple LLCs and consolidated reporting
• Hands-on ResMan experience, or another property management platform
• Experience leading an accounting team
