Fullstack Engineer (Node)

Senior Node.js Developer - 3 month Contract - paying £500 Outside IR35 - Hybrid (London)

About the client

Our client is looking for an experienced Node.js Developer to join on a contract basis and help build and scale the services behind their consumer journeys.

The role

• Design, build and maintain scalable backend services and APIs using Node.js and TypeScript
• Develop and integrate with partner and supplier APIs to deliver accurate, real-time quotes and comparisons
• Contribute to an event-driven, microservices-based architecture running on AWS
• Write clean, well-tested code and take ownership of quality through unit, integration and end-to-end testing
• Improve the performance, reliability and observability of production services
• Work closely with product managers, designers, QA and other engineers in a cross-functional agile squad
• Take part in code reviews, technical design discussions and continuous improvement of engineering practices
• Support and mentor other engineers where appropriate

About you

• Strong commercial experience as a backend or full-stack developer with Node.js and TypeScript
• Experience building RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs with frameworks such as Express, NestJS or Fastify
• Hands-on experience with AWS, including services such as Lambda, ECS, S3, SQS/SNS or DynamoDB
• Understanding of microservices and event-driven architecture
• Solid experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases (e.g. PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB)
• Strong testing discipline using tools such as Jest, Cypress or similar
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, Docker and infrastructure as code (e.g. Terraform)
• A collaborative approach and confidence working with product and business stakeholders

Nice to have

• Experience in comparison, e-commerce, fintech, insurance, payments or other high-traffic consumer platforms
• Exposure to messaging and streaming tools such as Kafka or RabbitMQ
• Monitoring and observability experience (e.g. Datadog, Grafana, CloudWatch)
• Some React or frontend experience
• Interest in applying AI to customer-facing products
