TITLE: Senior Full Stack Engineer (PHP/Symfony + Next.js)

LOCATION: Remote (US, Canada, or Latin America) or hybrid in Portland, OR

PAY: Target pay for this role may vary based on experience

ENGAGEMENT TYPE: Contract, 6 months with possible extension

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

Overview of responsibilities

You'll build a modern vacation platform end to end: advanced search, multi-currency reservations, billing, inventory, and third-party integrations. The stack is a PHP/Symfony back end with a Next.js front end and admin system.

• Design and build scalable, maintainable PHP/Symfony applications and APIs
• Model complex business domains with Domain-Driven Design, keeping business logic well-bounded and adaptable
• Build Next.js/React features in TypeScript across the customer-facing front end and the admin system
• Build and tune search experiences for members finding and booking stays, including real-time delivery of results via Mercure
• Design efficient PostgreSQL schemas and queries, and implement caching strategies that hold up at scale
• Design secure, high-performing APIs and build complex integrations with third-party providers, internal services, and external data sources
• Use AI tools to speed development while owning correctness, security, and maintainability, and help set the team's practices for AI-assisted development
• Contribute to architecture decisions and engineering standards through code review, testing, and documentation
• Partner with Product, Design, QA, DevOps, and Security in sprint planning, reviews, and retrospectives
• Expect roughly a 60/40 back-end/front-end split:
  • Early work is back-end heavy (server, APIs, integrations).
  • Later stretches may be almost entirely Next.js admin work.

WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• 5+ years of professional PHP development at an expert level, with advanced, hands-on Symfony experience
• Production Next.js and React experience in TypeScript, well beyond cursory familiarity. This is a true full-stack role, not a back-end role with occasional UI work.
• Domain-Driven Design applied in your day-to-day work
• Hands-on experience with Mercure and event-driven architecture
• Advanced PostgreSQL, including schema design and query optimization
• Search systems experience with Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, or similar
• Deep caching experience: Redis, HTTP caching, and application-level caching
• A track record designing and delivering complex API integrations
• Hands-on AI-assisted development experience, with a clear grasp of its limits and accountability for what ships
• Solid OOP, design patterns, and service-oriented architecture; CI/CD, Git, and Docker
• Expert English proficiency, written and spoken
• Self-starter who works independently and communicates proactively in a fast-moving environment
• Nice to have: AWS (strongly preferred), hexagonal architecture, or hospitality, travel, eCommerce, or marketplace platform experience
