The Franchise Tax Board's (FTB) WASS and Non Tax Section (WaNTS) is seeking an Architect to join our team! We are looking for a highly technical individual who is able to work independently, be self-motivated, and work well as a team player.

In this role, you will guide architectural direction, ensure our systems are secure, scalable, reliable, and aligned with FTB's mission to help taxpayers file accurate returns and fund critical public services. This is a hands on architect role where you'll partner closely with technical teams, business partners, and stakeholders to shape the future of our enterprise applications.

• Ability to design and evaluate system, application, and integration architectures in complex enterprise environments
• Strong understanding of architectural frameworks, modernization approaches, and developing current and future state roadmaps
• Experience creating or maintaining technical documentation such as architecture diagrams and data flow documentation
• Knowledge of or experience with FTB applications, including WASS
• Knowledge of Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) principles such as SLIs, SLOs, and SLAs
• Experience working within a Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC)
• Facilitate and/or actively participate in technical design reviews, architectural governance discussions, or solution assessment sessions
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify architectural risks, gaps, and improvement opportunities
• Experience coordinating incident response, conducting root cause analysis, and/or supporting technical Major Incident Response Team (MIRT)
• Ability to communicate complex technical information, including architectural concepts, clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, mentor others, and contribute to cross team knowledge sharing
• A proactive, solution oriented mindset with the ability to balance long term strategy and short term delivery needs
• Experience with common enterprise technologies such as JavaScript, C#, and Microsoft SQL Server, including building, integrating, or supporting solutions leveraging these platforms
