What they need
Functional Medicine Nurse Practitioner
Remote | Part-Time, 10–20 Hours/Week | Starting at $65/Hour + Monthly Performance Bonus
Voted Best Functional Medicine Practice in Washington, DC, Rise Functional Medicine is a virtual, mission-driven practice built around a simple belief: healthcare should help people understand their bodies, take ownership of their health, and create meaningful change in their lives. We provide personalized, evidence-informed care with a focus on gut health, hormone and metabolic health, brain health, healthy aging, and performance optimization.
Many of our patients come to us after years of managing symptoms, trying different approaches, or being told everything looks “normal,” while knowing they don't feel like themselves. Our structured, high-touch programs combine comprehensive medical care, advanced testing when appropriate, individualized treatment, education, health coaching, and ongoing support to help patients understand the why behind their health and make meaningful, sustainable changes.
Our programs change people's lives. We see patients regain energy, return to activities they love, feel stronger and clearer, and become more confident and empowered in their own health. That impact is at the heart of why we do this work.
This role is ideal for a Nurse Practitioner who loves root-cause medicine, believes deeply in patient education and empowerment, and wants their clinical work to have a meaningful impact. You'll build long-term relationships with patients, guide them through their health journey, and have the opportunity to see the impact of your work unfold over time.
About the Position
This is a part-time telehealth position, approximately 10–20 hours per week, with the opportunity to grow into a full-time role.
You'll work directly with our founder and Clinical Director, Ashley Shrader, DNP, FNP-C, IFMCP, learning the Rise Functional Medicine clinical model and progressively taking greater ownership of patient care.
Rise provides an established clinical framework, structured patient programs, administrative systems, health coaching support, and an existing patient population, so you can focus on providing exceptional patient care. During your first 90 days, you'll learn our clinical systems and approach, develop relationships with patients and our team, and progressively manage patient care independently.
What You'll Be Doing
Patient Care & Clinical Management
- Conduct comprehensive functional medicine consultations and follow-up visits via telehealth
- Develop and adjust individualized, evidence-informed treatment plans
- Manage care related to gut health, hormone and metabolic health, brain health, healthy aging, and performance
- Prescribe and manage medications and hormone therapies when clinically appropriate and within scope
- Educate patients so they understand the reasoning behind their care and can take an active role in their health
Laboratory & Treatment Management
- Order and interpret conventional laboratory testing and review specialty functional medicine testing when appropriate
- Integrate laboratory findings with history, symptoms, lifestyle, and clinical presentation
- Recommend evidence-informed medications, supplements, nutrition, and lifestyle interventions
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
Collaboration & Continuity
- Collaborate closely with our health coaches and clinical team
- Participate in clinical case reviews and team meetings
- Communicate with patients between visits when appropriate to maintain continuity of care
- Work within established Rise clinical systems while bringing your own critical thinking and clinical judgment
Required Qualifications
- Active, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner licensure in at least three of the following states/jurisdictions, with eligibility and willingness to obtain licensure in the remaining locations: Oregon, Massachusetts, Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC
- Current prescriptive authority and unrestricted DEA registration
- Strong clinical assessment and critical-thinking skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Comfortable providing care entirely through telehealth
- Strong clinical documentation habits and comfort working within an EMR (we use Practice Better)
- Ability to work collaboratively within an established clinical model
Preferred Experience
We'd especially like to hear from you if you have experience or advanced training in:
- Functional or integrative medicine
- Hormone therapy, including perimenopause, menopause, and men's hormone health
- Gastrointestinal and metabolic health
- Brain health, healthy aging, and lifestyle medicine
- Specialty functional laboratory interpretation
Formal functional medicine certification is valuable, but we are equally interested in strong clinicians who demonstrate excellent judgment, curiosity, and a commitment to continued learning.
You May Be a Great Fit If You...
You want your work to matter and are energized by helping patients make meaningful changes in their health and their lives.
You enjoy the detective work of complex cases, but you also know that good functional medicine isn't about ordering every test or supplementing every abnormality.
You value evidence while recognizing the importance of individualized care.
You enjoy teaching and can take complicated physiology and explain it in a way that helps patients feel clearer rather than overwhelmed.
You're comfortable saying, “I don't know, but I'll find out.”
You collaborate well, communicate proactively, take ownership of your work, and follow through.
Compensation & Schedule
Compensation: Starting at $65/hour, commensurate with experience, plus a monthly performance-based bonus opportunity.
Schedule: Approximately 10–20 hours per week, with the opportunity to grow into a full-time role. We offer a predictable part-time schedule with some flexibility in how clinical hours are structured.
Location: Fully remote/telehealth.
Additional benefits include:
- Paid onboarding and training in the Rise Functional Medicine model
- Ongoing clinical mentorship and case collaboration
- Administrative and health coaching support
- Established clinical systems, protocols, and patient programs
- Wholesale lab and supplement discounts
- Access to continuing education and clinical resources
- Paid time off
What Success Looks Like
Within your first 90 days, you'll be comfortable with our clinical systems and approach, have established strong relationships with patients and the team, and be beginning to independently manage follow-up visits and laboratory reviews.
As your role develops, success means confidently managing your patient panel while maintaining the thoughtful, personalized care our patients expect. You communicate well with the team, maintain timely documentation, provide excellent continuity of care, and know when to manage independently and when to collaborate.
