What they need

Help Build Relationships. Strengthen Community. Create Belonging.

Adoption Rhode Island is seeking a Fund Development Coordinator to join our Development team and help advance our mission of creating safety, belonging, and permanency for youth and families.

This is a hands-on development position for an organized, relationship-oriented professional who brings experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, donor relations, events, communications, or a related field. The Development Coordinator will help ensure that donors and community partners have meaningful experiences while supporting the systems, events, communications, and fundraising activities that make our work possible.

A Position Designed for Growth

The ideal candidate will bring a foundation of development experience and be excited to build on that experience and take on increasing responsibility over time.

Working closely with the Director of Donor Relations and other members of the Advancement team, the Coordinator will gain broad exposure to donor stewardship, fundraising events, sponsorships, database management, communications, donor research, grants support, and community engagement.

As skills and experience grow, there will be opportunities to deepen development expertise, strengthen leadership and project-management skills, and assume additional responsibilities based on demonstrated performance, organizational needs, and professional growth.

What You’ll Do

Donor Relations & Stewardship

  • Coordinate timely donor acknowledgments, thank-you communications, donor recognition, and stewardship activities.
  • Prepare personalized donor correspondence, invitations, recognition materials, reports, and other communications.
  • Track donor interactions and follow-up in DonorPerfect and help identify opportunities to strengthen donor relationships.
  • Support donor cultivation activities including tours, meetings, receptions, and special engagements.
  • Monitor online giving platforms and ensure gifts are accurately recorded and acknowledged.

Development Events & Fundraising

  • Support fundraising, cultivation, stewardship, and donor appreciation events from planning through follow-up.
  • Lead assigned events and event components, including logistics, registration, communications, vendors, volunteers, and follow-up.
  • Prepare sponsorship packages and support communication with existing and prospective sponsors.
  • Assist with event budgets, expense tracking, invoicing, reconciliation, and reporting.
  • Support third-party fundraising events, cause-marketing partnerships, and other fundraising initiatives.
  • Help grow recurring and monthly giving, including the Circle of Hope program.

Donor Database & Development Operations

  • Maintain accurate donor and constituent records in DonorPerfect and become an internal resource for the database.
  • Enter and update gifts, pledges, contact information, interactions, event participation, and other constituent data.
  • Create donor reports and assist with donor lists, mailing lists, event invitations, and stewardship reports.
  • Support donor segmentation and analysis.
  • Assist with database cleanup, quality control, and reconciliation while protecting confidential donor information.

Community Engagement

  • Coordinate Adoption Rhode Island’s Heart Gallery, a traveling community exhibit designed to raise awareness and build connections for youth in foster care.
  • Research and coordinate community locations and manage the movement of the exhibit.
  • Build relationships with host locations and identify opportunities for deeper community engagement.

Communications & Advancement

  • Assist with quarterly newsletters, donor mailings, invitations, and other development communications.
  • Maintain Constant Contact lists and support development-related email communications.
  • Coordinate with Marketing and Communications on social media and event promotion.
  • Support donor research, prospect identification, donor meetings, solicitations, briefings, and fundraising initiatives.
  • Maintain calendars for grant deadlines and reporting requirements and provide administrative support for grant activities.

What We’re Looking For

  • 3 -5 years of experience in nonprofit development, fundraising, donor relations, events, communications, project coordination, or a related field.
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Experience working with a donor database or CRM; DonorPerfect experience is a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build positive relationships with donors, colleagues, volunteers, and community partners.
  • Experience managing events, projects, and multiple competing priorities.
  • Ability to handle confidential donor information with discretion.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and willingness to learn new databases and technology.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with a team.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends for events.
  • Reliable transportation for local events, meetings, and Heart Gallery locations.

Why This Role Matters

Every donor acknowledgment, successful event, community partnership, and meaningful conversation helps Adoption Rhode Island provide critical support and opportunities to youth and families.

If you’re ready to bring your development experience to a mission-driven organization—and grow your skills and responsibilities along the way—we’d love to hear from you.
