What they need
Mitre10 MEGA Whangarei is a locally owned and operated business, with a strong commitment to the community. Led by dynamic, innovative and highly entrepreneurial owners, this is an exceptional time to become a part of this superb team - playing a significant part in achieving their goal to be the best building supplies merchant in Northland.
The Mitre10 MEGA Whangarei Garden Centre does more than sell plants and related outdoor garden products - they help people create outdoor spaces they love. This is your chance to lead one of Northland's leading garden destinations and make a genuine impact on customers, the team, and the business.
We’re looking for a Garden Centre Manager who brings energy, commercial acumen, and a genuine love of people, horticulture and retail.
You’ll own the performance of a busy, seasonal department, lead a talented team, and bring the kind of leadership that turns a great garden centre into an even greater one!
About the role: This is a role for someone who likes to be close to the action. You’ll be on the floor, setting the standard, coaching the team, and making sure every part of the garden centre is working together to deliver an outstanding customer experience.
Your key priorities will include:
- Leading, developing, and inspiring a high-performing team of garden specialists.
- Creating a destination garden centre that customers actively choose to visit.
- Driving sales, margin, stock availability, and waste performance across all categories.
- Bringing the space to life through strong merchandising, seasonal displays, and retail theatre.
- Ensuring the garden centre is fresh, abundant, safe, and operationally excellent every day.
About you:
- You're a 'hands-on' leader with the ability to energise a team to perform at their best
- You know how to balance customer experience with commercial performance
- You come from an 'experiential' retail/showroom environment - understanding the principles that transform physical stores into immersive, interactive destinations rather than just places to buy goods
- You bring relevant leadership experience in a similar, fast-paced environment
- You ideally bring strong knowledge of plants, horticulture, or outdoor living products.
- You have the commercial confidence to manage KPIs, analyse results, and make smart business decisions.
- Experience in merchandising, stock control, forecasting, and seasonal planning will be a major advantage
**Benefits:**You'll be joining a dynamic, fast-paced business with a superb leadership team and impressive growth plans - this is the ideal move for a high energy retail manager looking for real scope to make a difference!
Our successful candidate will be well rewarded with an attractive package commensurate with experience, including relocation assistance - so don't hesitate to apply to learn more.
**To apply:**Contact Jo Wilson, Managing Director at Gunn Talent on (021) 560-981 560-981) or apply now with your CV and I'll be in touch.
Other offers great for you!
