What they need
About Us
At Pivotel, we help people and organisations stay connected, even in some of the most remote locations. Our satellite and telecommunications services support customers who depend on reliable connectivity to work, stay safe and keep their operations running.
Behind these services is a team of people who enjoy solving problems and making a difference through technology.
About the role
We’re looking for a practical, hands-on Gateway Technician to join our Engineering & Enablement team at our Brocklehurst Teleport, near Dubbo.
Reporting to the Gateway Operations Manager, you’ll help keep our satellite gateway infrastructure operating safely and reliably. Your work will include monitoring systems, troubleshooting faults, maintaining equipment and supporting infrastructure upgrades.
This role is based on site five days a week and includes participation in an on-call roster, occasional after-hours call-outs and travel as required. You’ll also provide backup to the Gateway Operations Manager, with an opportunity to develop towards this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor gateway systems, respond to alarms and investigate faults to maintain reliable service delivery.
- Carry out routine operational checks and preventative maintenance across RF equipment, antennas, power, cooling and supporting infrastructure.
- Diagnose and resolve technical issues, escalating more complex incidents when needed.
- Coordinate on-site contractors and ensure work follows WHS requirements and site procedures.
- Support infrastructure upgrades, equipment installations and commissioning activities.
- Complete approved maintenance and changes, communicate planned outages and check systems following the work.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, technical documentation and site security requirements.
- Provide on-site technical assistance for customers and vendors, including on-call and after-hours support.
What you’ll bring to this role
You’re a reliable, proactive problem solver who enjoys hands-on technical work and takes pride in keeping equipment and systems running well.
You’ll bring:
- Experience in telecommunications, satellite communications or critical infrastructure environments.
- An understanding of RF communications systems and experience maintaining technical equipment.
- Mechanical aptitude and basic electrical and electronic troubleshooting skills.
- Experience with Cat5/6 and fibre cabling.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Windows, Linux and ticketing systems.
- The ability to interpret technical documentation and maintain clear, accurate records.
- Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to work independently and balance maintenance with urgent operational needs.
- A safety-first approach and the ability to work outdoors and at heights, where appropriately trained.
- A current driver licence and availability to participate in the on-call roster.
Why join Pivotel
- Join a team where your contribution makes a practical difference, with a pathway towards the Gateway Operations Manager role.
- Enjoy additional paid annual leave during your employment – 3 bonus days available from commencement.
- Access to Employment Hero benefits, including discounts and cashback on everyday expenses such as fuel, groceries, retail and travel.
- Employee Assistance Program (EAP) offering 24/7 confidential support for you and your family.
To Apply
If you’re an experienced Gateway Technician or hands-on technical professional with a background in telecommunications, satellite communications or critical infrastructure, and you enjoy troubleshooting, maintaining equipment and keeping essential services running, we’d love to hear from you.
Please submit your resume and a cover letter outlining your relevant experience and interest in the role.
