General Accountant

About the role

SPARTA Philippines is seeking a talented and motivated General Accountant to join our finance team. This full-time, regular role is based in our Mandaluyong City, Metro Manila office. As General Accountant, you will manage our day-to-day accounting operations, financial reporting, and compliance, and supervise a small team of 2 to 3 accounting staff. You will play a crucial part in keeping our financial records accurate and our accounting systems efficient and compliant.

What you'll be doing

• Managing and supervising a team of 2 to 3 accounting staff, ensuring accuracy, productivity, and timely deliverables
• Overseeing daily accounting operations, including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger maintenance, bank reconciliations, expense monitoring, and financial transaction recording
• Reviewing accounting entries, reconciliations, schedules, and supporting documents prepared by the team
• Preparing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and management reports
• Analyzing financial reports, operational costs, and budget variances to give insights and recommendations to senior management
• Assisting management in budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning
• Ensuring compliance with accounting standards, tax regulations, and government reporting requirements (BIR, SEC, SSS, PhilHealth, Pag-IBIG, and other agencies)
• Leading month-end and year-end closing, including journal entries, accruals, adjustments, and reconciliations
• Coordinating with external auditors, consultants, and government representatives during audits and assessments
• Maintaining strong internal controls to safeguard company assets and minimize financial risk
• Recommending and implementing process improvements to increase accounting efficiency and accuracy
• Collaborating with HR, Operations, Admin, and Management to support business initiatives
• Coaching and supporting Junior Accountants, and helping train and onboard accounting personnel
• Performing other accounting, finance, and administrative duties assigned by management

What we're looking for

• Bachelor's degree in Accountancy or a related field
• At least 5-10years of experience in a similar accounting role, including supervisory experience
• Strong technical accounting knowledge and analytical, problem-solving skills with attention to detail
• Leadership capability and the ability to guide and coach a small team
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work with all departments
• Proficient in accounting software and Microsoft Office applications
• Knowledge of Philippine tax regulations, government compliance requirements, and reporting standards
• Able to work independently, take initiative, and handle pressure during closing periods, audits, and reporting deadlines
• Professional, accountable, and committed to confidentiality and ethical standards
• Open to continuous learning, system improvements, and process optimization
