General Cleaner - Refinery Setting

The General Cleaner is responsible for maintaining clean, sanitary, and professional office and shared spaces within a refinery facility. This position primarily focuses on administrative buildings, offices, restrooms, breakrooms, conference rooms, hallways, and other designated common areas. While this is not an industrial process-equipment cleaning position, employees will be working within an active refinery environment and must consistently follow all site-specific safety, security, and access requirements. The ideal candidate is dependable, safety-conscious, comfortable working in an industrial environment, and takes pride in maintaining a clean and professional workplace.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Clean and maintain offices, administrative areas, conference rooms, and reception areas
• Sweep, mop, vacuum, and clean floors according to established procedures
• Empty trash and recycling containers and replace liners
• Clean, disinfect, and restock restrooms
• Clean and maintain employee breakrooms, kitchens, and common areas
• Wipe and disinfect tables, counters, doors, handles, and other high-touch surfaces
• Dust furniture, fixtures, windowsills, and other surfaces
• Clean interior glass, doors, and designated windows
• Replenish soap, paper products, and other restroom and breakroom supplies
• Spot-clean walls, doors, and other surfaces as needed
• Maintain janitorial closets, equipment, and supplies in a clean and organized condition
• Properly use and store cleaning chemicals in accordance with safety procedures
• Identify and report spills, maintenance concerns, safety hazards, or damaged equipment
• Follow assigned cleaning schedules and complete required areas within established timeframes
• Follow all refinery security, access, safety, and emergency procedures
• Wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when entering designated areas
• Attend required site-specific safety training and meetings
• Perform other related custodial duties as assigned

Work Environment
This position is located inside an active refinery facility. The majority of cleaning responsibilities will be performed in office, administrative, and common areas; however, employees may be required to walk through or work near designated industrial areas to access assigned buildings.
Employees may encounter:

• Industrial noise
• Outdoor weather conditions when traveling between buildings
• Stairs and extended walking distances
• Active vehicle and equipment traffic
• Industrial odors
• Areas requiring specific PPE
• Controlled or restricted-access areas

Employees must remain aware of their surroundings and follow all posted signs, designated walkways, security requirements, and site-specific safety procedures at all times.

Minimum Qualifications

• Previous janitorial, custodial, housekeeping, warehouse, manufacturing, or general labor experience preferred but not required
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Strong attention to detail
• Dependable attendance and punctuality
• Ability to follow strict safety and security procedures
• Ability to safely use standard janitorial equipment and cleaning products
• Willingness and ability to complete required safety training
• Ability to meet facility access and security requirements

Physical Requirements

• Employees must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, including:
• Standing and walking for extended periods
• Frequent bending, reaching, stooping, and kneeling
• Repetitive hand and arm movements
• Pushing and pulling janitorial carts and equipment
• Climbing stairs as required
• Lifting and carrying cleaning supplies, trash, and equipment
• Performing physical cleaning duties throughout the scheduled shift

Safety Expectations

• Safety is an essential part of working within a refinery environment. Employees are expected to:
• Follow all company and refinery safety policies
• Complete all required safety orientations and training
• Wear required PPE in designated areas
• Follow chemical labeling and Safety Data Sheet (SDS) requirements
• Never enter unauthorized or restricted areas
• Immediately report unsafe conditions, incidents, or injuries
• Follow all emergency alarms, evacuation procedures, and site instructions
• Maintain situational awareness while moving throughout the facility

Preferred Candidate
We are looking for someone who is reliable, safety-minded, hardworking, and comfortable working in an industrial setting. Previous refinery experience is helpful but is not required for candidates who are willing to learn and consistently follow established safety procedures.
