General Counsel

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced General Counsel to lead the legal function of a growing international medical device business and provide strategic legal counsel to the CEO and senior leadership team.

The role will have broad responsibility for the Group’s international operations and global expansion across multiple jurisdictions.

The ideal candidate will combine strong corporate and commercial legal expertise with substantial experience in cross-border transactions, M&A, intellectual property and international business operations. Experience supporting a medical device or other highly regulated healthcare business would be highly advantageous.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the Group’s legal function and provide strategic legal advice to the CEO and senior management.
• Oversee legal matters relating to the Group’s international medical device operations and global expansion.
• Lead and advise on M&A, investments, joint ventures, strategic partnerships and other cross-border transactions.
• Provide advice on corporate governance, corporate structuring, financing and general corporate matters.
• Support commercial activities including sales, distribution, licensing, procurement and strategic partnerships.
• Advise on intellectual property matters, including IP protection, licensing, commercialisation and IP-related transactions.
• Identify and manage legal, regulatory and compliance risks associated with operating a medical device business across multiple jurisdictions.
• Work closely with regulatory, quality, commercial and business teams to support compliant business growth.
• Manage relationships with external legal advisers across different jurisdictions.
• Build and lead an effective international legal function and establish appropriate legal governance and processes.
• Act as a trusted business partner to the CEO and senior leadership team, balancing legal risk with commercial objectives.

Requirements

• Qualified lawyer with 15+ years of relevant legal experience.
• Significant senior in-house legal leadership experience, ideally within a multinational or internationally expanding medical device, healthcare or life sciences company.
• Strong experience managing international and cross-border legal matters, with exposure to key jurisdictions including China, the US, Europe and other international markets.
• Proven track record in M&A, investments, corporate transactions and strategic partnerships.
• Strong corporate and commercial legal expertise.
• Good understanding of intellectual property and IP-related commercial matters.
• Experience managing international legal teams and external counsel across multiple jurisdictions.
• Strong commercial judgement and the ability to translate complex legal issues into practical business solutions.
• Excellent English communication skills; Mandarin Chinese is highly advantageous.
• Experience working with medical device or other regulated healthcare businesses is strongly preferred.
