Who we are

The BAX Group is an owner-led Swiss group with its headquarters in Aarau. Through its subsidiaries it is active in real estate, construction and project management, architecture, fashion, media and communication, and digital business. The group comprises companies in Switzerland, Germany (Munich), Italy (Milan) and Canada (Montreal).

Why we are recruiting

We are building our own legal function. Our objective is to handle the great majority of the group’s legal matters in-house and to instruct external law firms only where this is genuinely necessary. To achieve this, we work with AI-based analysis tools: files are read, facts are extracted, precedents are located and arguments are pre-structured by the tools, so that our lawyers can concentrate on assessment, strategy and the finished work product. We are therefore looking for lawyers who see legal technology as a working instrument rather than a threat.

Position Title - General Counsel (Group), 100%, Aarau

You will build and lead the group’s legal function and report directly to the Chief Executive Officer.

Your responsibilities

• Overall responsibility for all legal matters of the group, organised by business area – real estate, construction and architecture on the one hand, fashion, media, communication and digital on the other, together with corporate and commercial matters across the group.
• Acting for and in the name of the group companies vis-à-vis counterparties, authorities and courts, and conducting proceedings yourself.
• Professional and disciplinary supervision of the legal team; setting the quality standard for all work product leaving the department.
• Ownership of the AI-supported workflow: you define how matters are prepared by the analysis tools, you review the output, and you finalise it.
• Deciding when external counsel is genuinely required, and selecting, instructing and controlling the cost of such counsel.
• Contract management, corporate housekeeping and legal risk management for the group.

Your profile

• Admission to the Swiss bar (Rechtsanwaltspatent) or an equivalent foreign qualification with the ability to obtain Swiss admission.
• Substantial post-qualification experience, including your own litigation practice before Swiss courts.
• Experience of leading a team, whether in private practice or in-house.
• Breadth rather than a single specialisation: you are comfortable moving between a project development and construction dispute, a trademark question and a commercial contract in the same week.
• German and English to a professional standard; Italian and/or French a distinct advantage.
• A demonstrable, practical interest in AI and legal technology.
