The opportunity

We’re looking for two proactive and community-minded individuals to help deliver a broad range of regulatory and educational services. As our General Duties Ranger, you will be in a varied, hands-on position where no two days are the same. You may be responding to an animal complaint, undertaking patrols, supporting the bulky and illegal waste investigation program, or helping a resident understand their obligations under local laws. You’ll play a key role in upholding Council regulations, with a key focus and priority on parking enforcement, particularly during peak holiday seasons.

This role is for someone who can have difficult conversations with empathy, remain calm under pressure, and confidently apply legislation and policy. We’re looking for someone who understands that the best outcome isn’t always achieved through enforcement.

You’ll be part of a supportive, high-performing team dedicated to making a positive impact across our local government area of Port Stephens.

  • We have twopositions available! Both permanent full-time, 35 hours / week over a 7 day rotation opportunities.
  • Base Salary Range: $72,385 - $84,985 pa based on 35 hours / week + 12% Superannuation + $2,562 Retention Allowance
  • You will be working from PSC Administration Building, Raymond Terrace

The key responsibilities within this role are listed in the position description - you can view the position description here.

We’re all about putting the right people, in the right role! Here’s what we’re looking for:

  • Certificate IV in Local Government (Regulatory Control) or equivalent
  • Current C Class Driver’s licence
  • Understanding of application of relevant legislation (Road Rules 2014, Local Government Act 1993, Roads Act 1993 and Public Spaces (Unattended Property) Act 2021)
  • Demonstrated experience in a Compliance or Investigatory role
  • Experience in specialised and regulatory industry practices
  • This position requires verification of a cleared Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check (National Police Check)

This is life at PSC!

  • Work/Life balance with generous leave entitlements, flexible work options and leave in lieu
  • Long service leave when you’ve been with us for just over 5 years
  • Health & Wellbeing leave to recharge when you need it
  • Industry leading Paid Parental Leave accessible for all employees – regardless of how you became a parent, we offer 14 weeks that can be taken within 2 years from the birth, adoption, or long-term foster care of your child.
  • PSCare Day available to all employees to take in addition to your regular leave entitlements
  • Confidential support (including mental health) through our employee assistance program
  • Award winning health and wellbeing program PSCare, Workers Health Initiative with access to a broad range of gyms in the area, and discounted health insurance
