General Handyman

We are seeking a dependable, experienced, versatile, and trustworthy general handyman to provide ongoing, as-needed maintenance, repairs, installations, furniture assembly, and outdoor upkeep for a private residential property.

Applicants must be experienced and capable of independently completing the general handyman responsibilities listed below. These tasks will be requested individually or in groups at various times throughout the year, depending on household needs.

This is not a full-time or regularly scheduled position. There are no guaranteed weekly hours or projects. Instead, the homeowner will contact the selected handyman when work is needed, provide the specific tasks and proposed compensation, and schedule the work upon mutual agreement.

We are looking to establish a reliable, long-term working relationship with someone who can handle a wide range of routine household projects without needing to hire a different person for every small task.

Key Responsibilities:

The handyman must have the experience, tools, and ability to complete the following types of tasks when requested throughout the year. Not all responsibilities will be required during every visit.

1. General Home Maintenance & Repairs

• Replace HVAC air filters and other household filters.
• Install, repair, or replace doorknobs, door handles, locks, and hinges.
• Install or replace cabinet knobs, pulls, handles, and hinges.
• Adjust doors, cabinets, and drawers that are loose or not closing properly.
• Repair minor drywall holes, cracks, and wall damage.
• Perform minor caulking, sealing, and touch-up painting.
• Repair or replace weatherstripping and doorstops.
• Install or replace basic household fixtures and accessories.

2. Installation & Home Improvement

• Hang curtains, curtain rods, blinds, and shades.
• Hang artwork, picture frames, mirrors, and decorative wall pieces.
• Install shelves, wall hooks, towel bars, and toilet paper holders..
• Install closet organizers and storage systems.

3. Furniture Assembly & Household Setup

• Move, rearrange, and position heavy furniture safely, using assistance or equipment when necessary.
• Install furniture hardware and make minor furniture repairs.
• Anchor furniture to walls for safety.
• Assist with room rearrangements and household organization projects.
• Move household items into storage areas, garages, or other rooms.

4. Outdoor Maintenance & Landscaping

• Pull weeds from garden beds, flower beds, and walkways.
• Spread mulch, soil, and decorative landscaping materials.
• Trim small bushes and remove light yard debris.
• Clean patios, porches, outdoor furniture, and walkways.
• Assemble outdoor furniture and garden equipment.
• Assist with basic garden bed maintenance and seasonal outdoor projects.

5. Seasonal & Preventive Maintenance

• Replace accessible smoke detector and carbon monoxide detector batteries.
• Replace accessible light bulbs.
• Inspect and replace worn weatherstripping.
• Clean reachable air vents and registers.
• Assist with seasonal decorating and removal of decorations

6. Miscellaneous Household Projects

• Complete other minor handyman tasks as requested throughout the year.
• Safely operate appropriate tools and equipment.
• Protect floors, walls, furniture, and household belongings while working.
• Clean up work areas after completing assignments.
• Communicate project progress, material needs, and unexpected issues.
• Obtain homeowner approval before purchasing materials or performing additional work.
• Identify work that requires a licensed or specialized contractor rather than attempting tasks outside their qualifications.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Previous hands-on experience in residential maintenance, repairs, installations, and furniture assembly.
• Experience with basic tools, hardware installation, and minor household repairs.
• Ability to independently assess and complete assigned projects safely and efficiently.
• Ability to safely move and handle heavy furniture, with appropriate equipment or assistance.
• Must have reliable transportation.
• Must be dependable, punctual, detail-oriented, and professional.
• Must respect homeowner privacy, property, and household belongings.
• Must communicate clearly about availability, project needs, and completion.
• Must provide references upon request.
• Must successfully complete a background check conducted by the homeowner before beginning work.
• Must communicate any tasks they cannot safely or legally perform.

Compensation & Payment

Fixed payment per project

• Each assignment will be offered separately.
• The homeowner will explain the requested work and provide a specific flat project payment.
• Compensation must be accepted by the handyman before the assignment begins.
• Payment will be provided upon completion of the agreed-upon work.
• All materials and additional expenses must be approved in advance.

Background Check Requirement

A background check is mandatory before any work begins.

The homeowner will independently arrange and conduct the background check. Applicants must be willing to provide the necessary information and authorization for screening.

Successful completion of the screening process is required before the first assignment.

Pay: $40.00 - $200.00 per day
