General Labor- Knife

Knife positions work with hand tools, knives, machinery, and other equipment to process meat products for the consumer. Team members in these roles primarily use straight knives, skinning tools, shaving tools, hand saws, powered whizard knives, and other specialized knives across general production areas of the facility.

These positions can be physically demanding and require strong hand and eye coordination along with close attention to detail. Team members must be able to follow established safety and quality procedures while maintaining consistent production standards.

General Knife positions must be able to work their full scheduled shift and may be required to work overtime based on production demands. Team members are expected to demonstrate flexibility and reliability as production needs shift across different areas within the facility.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Work with a knife
• Obtain certification when required to operate specific equipment associated with the position
• Understand and follow oral and written instructions
• Wear required personal protective equipment, including a hard hat, hearing, eye, and body protection, and steel toed/composite safety shoes
• Work in a noisy environment while using personal protective equipment
• Work with sanitation and cleaning chemicals
• Work around strong smells and odors
• Work around animal blood and carcass parts
• Work in cold areas, approximately twenty to forty degrees, and in warm areas that may exceed one hundred degrees
• Work in an environment that is wet and humid
• Perform tasks requiring continuous and repetitive movement, including grasping, pinching, and flexing and extending the arms and hands
• Climb and move safely on ladders, steps, stairways, walkways, and platforms
• Bend, stoop, and twist repetitively throughout the course of a full shift
• Stand on concrete or platform surfaces for up to a twelve-hour shift
• Walk long distances as required by the role
• Perform physically demanding work that may require the use of some or all body parts and muscle groups. Some positions may require repetitive overhead lifting of up to thirty pounds, single lifts of heavy objects weighing up to sixty pounds, or lifting with the use of mechanical assistance
• Fulfill additional essential functions as applicable to the specific position
