General Laborer-Machine Shop

Job Summary

The General Laborer supports daily machine shop operations by assisting machinists and operators, maintaining a clean and safe work environment, handling materials, and performing basic production tasks. This position requires attention to detail, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Load and unload raw materials, parts, and finished products.
• Assist machine operators and machinists with production activities.
• Clean machinery, workstations, and shop areas to maintain a safe and organized workplace.
• Deburr, grind, polish, and finish machined parts as required.
• Operate basic shop equipment and tools safely.
• Move materials using hand trucks, pallet jacks, forklifts, or overhead cranes (if certified).
• Package, label, and prepare products for shipment.
• Perform basic quality inspections and report defects or issues to supervisors.
• Follow work instructions, shop procedures, and safety regulations.
• Dispose of scrap materials and maintain inventory of shop supplies.
• Assist with preventative maintenance and general shop upkeep.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Previous manufacturing or machine shop experience is beneficial but not required.
• Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
• Ability to use measuring tools such as tape measures, calipers, and gauges is a plus.
• Strong attention to detail and safety awareness.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
• Frequently lift and carry materials up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and perform repetitive tasks.
• Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, oils, and varying temperatures.
• Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

Reports To: Shop Supervisor or Production Manager

Pay: $15.00 - $25.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 per week
