General Labourer / Trainee HETAS engineer

Full-time | Permanent | Based in Chesham

The Fire Place Chesham is a family-run business specialising in the supply and installation of wood-burning and multifuel stoves, fireplaces and flue systems.

We’re looking for a practical, reliable person to join our small installation team on a full-time basis.

The role will initially involve working alongside and assisting a qualified HETAS engineer with stove and flue-system installations at customers’ properties. For the right person, there will be an opportunity to develop within the business and work towards HETAS installation & chimney sweeping qualifications. Full on-the-job training will be provided.

Responsibilities will include:

• Assisting with stove, fireplace and flue-system installations
• Preparing and protecting customers’ properties before work begins
• Moving and handling stoves, stone, tools and installation materials
• Working safely on ladders and at height
• Loading, unloading and maintaining company vehicles
• Keeping tools, vehicles and working areas clean and organised
• Providing a polite and professional service at customers’ properties
• Undertaking additional training as the role develops

The ideal candidate will:

• Be dependable, punctual and able to work effectively as part of a small team
• Have practical ability and a willingness to learn
• Ideally have previous experience in construction, roofing, property maintenance or another hands-on trade
• Be physically fit and comfortable with manual work
• Be happy working outdoors throughout the year
• Be confident working at height on ladders
• Applicants must be aged 25 or over due to company vehicle insurance restrictions. A full, clean UK driving licence is essential, as driving company vehicles is a fundamental part of the role.
• Be respectful and presentable when working in customers’ homes
• Have the right to work in the UK

This is a physically demanding role which involves lifting, working outdoors in varying weather conditions and travelling to different customer properties.

Starting salary is competitive and will depend on experience and existing qualifications.

Pay: £32,100.00-£34,700.00 per year
