General Ledger Accountant

About the role

The General Ledger Accountant is accountable to perform and review day-to-day shared services operations for the region including period-end close and associated reconciliations, TB analysis, accruals, amortization, Fixed Assets, Intercompany and other related journal entries; preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual compliance and regulatory reporting; support for audit related matters; monthly Balance Sheet Reconciliations; and issue resolution. The role involves working in close collaboration with the Asia Pacific Office of Ethics & Compliance (OEC) and escalation of violation incidences to OEC for further directives.

Key responsibilities

• Manage period-end close activities including preparation, analysis and posting of GL journal entries such as accruals, prepayments, Interco related transactions, Fixed assets and adjusting entries
• Review and reconciliation of intercompany accounts, involving communication with other Abbott business locations worldwide
• Preparation of monthly financial and trend reports in a timely, accurate and efficient manner
• Preparation of multi-currency bank reconciliations
• Assist Local Finance Stakeholders with internal or external audit requirements during periodic review procedures
• Provide supporting documents as required by auditors in a timely, accurate, and efficient manner
• Ensure all aged, open and reconciling items in Balance Sheet Account Reconciliations are accounted for and adequately explained
• Lead and drive process improvement initiatives including identification of high-impact manual processes for automation or digitization
• Lead end-to-end automation initiatives from process assessment and business case development to solution design, testing, deployment, and post-implementation stabilization
• Provide resolution of escalated operational issues and perform root-cause analysis with recommended preventive action plans

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting; CPA is a plus
• Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, month-end close, and financial reporting processes
• Minimum 2–3 years of hands-on experience driving automation or process transformation initiatives in finance
• Hands-on experience with automation tools and technologies such as RPA platforms, Microsoft Power Platform (Power Automate, Power BI), Advanced Excel / VBA, and workflow or low-code tools
• Continuous improvement mindset with a focus on efficiency, quality, and risk reduction
• Clear and demonstrated understanding of US GAAP with ability to apply technical knowledge in a practical manner to day-to-day operations
• Strong English communication skills and the ability to interact with internal and external parties at all levels
• Team-oriented, self-starter with the flexibility to work in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision
• Experience in specialized accounting such as Treasury, inventory and product costing is an advantage
• SAP or other enterprise systems experience is an advantage
