General Ledger Manager

We are looking for an accomplished General Ledger Manager to join a detail-oriented services firm in Pennsylvania on a contract-to-hire basis. This role is suited for a hands-on accounting leader who can guide day-to-day operations, oversee the accuracy of client financial records, and support timely tax and reporting deliverables. The position combines team leadership, technical review, and direct involvement with more complex small business accounting engagements.

Open to part-time and full-time options. Fully onsite.

Responsibilities:

• Direct the flow of accounting and tax work across the team, balancing assignments and monitoring deadlines to keep client engagements on schedule.

• Lead and coach bookkeeping and tax staff by providing technical guidance, reviewing output, and encouraging consistent performance standards.

• Examine general ledger activity, reconciliations, and financial reporting packages to confirm completeness, accuracy, and compliance.

• Conduct detailed reviews of business tax filings, including pass-through and sole proprietor returns, before final approval and release.

• Take ownership of challenging or high-visibility client accounts by preparing financial statements and tax work for complex engagements.

• Identify discrepancies in client books, investigate unusual balances or transactions, and drive corrective action where needed.

• Support month-end close activities through oversight of journal entries, account analysis, and reconciliation processes.

• Maintain an organized operating rhythm for the office by tracking project status, prioritizing urgent needs, and ensuring deliverables move efficiently from preparation through completion.

• 10+ years of accounting experience, including significant responsibility for general ledger oversight, month-end close, and financial review.

• Demonstrated leadership experience managing or mentoring accounting, bookkeeping, or tax professionals in a client service environment.

• Strong expertise in general ledger management, journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial statement audits.

• Background reviewing and supporting small business tax engagements, with the ability to assess accuracy and adherence to applicable requirements.

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.

• EA or CPA preferred.

• Proficiency with QuickBooks Online, QuickBooks Desktop, or comparable accounting platforms, along with solid Excel skills.

• Excellent organization, analytical judgment, and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively.
