General Maintenance Person

Purpose of the Role

The Maintenance Person supports the smooth running of Charlestown Lodge by carrying out routine maintenance, minor repairs, and general upkeep of the building and grounds. This role is key in ensuring the Lodge remains a safe, comfortable, and well-maintained environment for residents and staff.

We are looking for a part-time cover position specifically working Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

Key Responsibilities

1. General Maintenance and Repairs

• Carry out day-to-day repairs across the building, including minor plumbing, electrical, painting, and carpentry work.
• Respond promptly to reported faults or maintenance requests.
• Support planned maintenance and refurbishment works as directed by the Duty Manager.

2. Building and Grounds Upkeep

• Ensure common areas, internal and external, are clean, safe, and in good working order.
• Carry out minor groundskeeping tasks such as sweeping, clearing drains, and seasonal upkeep.
• Assist with waste management, recycling, and basic pest control measures when required.

3. Health & Safety Support

• Report hazards, damage, or safety concerns promptly.
• Carry out regular checks of fire extinguishers, emergency lighting, and first-aid kits under guidance.
• Ensure safe storage and use of tools, ladders, and cleaning chemicals.

4. Support for Contractors

• Assist with access and supervision of external contractors carrying out works.
• Receive and move deliveries of supplies or equipment when needed.

5. Record-Keeping and Communication

• Keep basic records of works completed and materials used.
• Report progress and concerns clearly to the Maintenance Manager or Operations Manager.
• Maintain a courteous and professional manner with residents and staff at all times.

Person Specification

Essential:

• Practical experience in building maintenance, repair work, or a trade
• Basic understanding of plumbing, electrics, carpentry, or general repairs
• Ability to work independently and take initiative
• Good communication and problem-solving skills
• Flexible and dependable approach
• Valid driving licence

Desirable:

• SafePass, Manual Handling, or relevant certification
• Experience working in residential, social care, or supported accommodation settings
• Familiarity with basic health and safety requirements

Pay: €15.00-€18.00 per hour
