General Manager

Flying J Travel Center is seeking an experienced, strategic, and customer-focused General Manager to oversee all aspects of daily travel center operations. This role is responsible for leading multiple departments, managing employees, driving sales and profitability, maintaining inventory, and ensuring exceptional customer service. The ideal candidate is a strong operational leader with excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills who thrives in a fast-paced travel center environment.

Key Responsibilities:

• Oversee daily operations across retail, food service, fuel, and customer service areas
• Lead, train, coach, and develop management and hourly team members
• Establish and monitor sales, profitability, labor, and operational goals
• Ensure exceptional customer service and promptly resolve customer concerns
• Manage staffing, employee schedules, payroll, and labor costs
• Monitor inventory, ordering, receiving, stocking, and merchandise presentation
• Review financial and operational reports and implement improvement strategies
• Ensure compliance with company policies, food safety standards, and workplace safety regulations
• Coordinate with vendors, suppliers, and internal departments
• Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and welcoming travel center
• Support recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, and employee development
• Foster a positive, accountable, and team-oriented workplace culture
• Perform additional management and operational duties as assigned

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Hospitality, or a related field preferred
• Previous experience as a General Manager, Store Manager, or multi-department operations manager preferred
• Strong leadership, communication, customer service, and decision-making skills
• Experience managing budgets, inventory, staffing, and operational performance
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and POS or retail management systems
• Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Flexible availability, including nights, weekends, holidays, and emergency situations
