£700k refurbishment | Food-led destination gastropub
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced General Manager to take the lead at The Trevor Arms, Marford, ahead of its reopening following a major £700,000 transformation.
Set to reopen towards the end of November, The Trevor Arms is being completely transformed into a quality, food-led destination gastropub, with a newly refurbished restaurant and bar, brand-new kitchen and a large outdoor beer garden.
We're looking for an experienced hospitality operator with a strong background in running successful food-led pubs, gastropubs or restaurants who can take ownership of the venue and establish it as a destination for great food, drinks and hospitality.
The Trevor Arms
Our ambition is to create a fantastic modern British gastropub that people will happily travel to visit.
Food will sit at the heart of the business, with the restaurant serving elevated versions of classic British pub dishesalongside a quality drinks offering.
We're looking to create the type of welcoming, established food-led pub where excellent hospitality, consistency and attention to detail are every bit as important as the food itself.
The General Manager will play a huge part in creating that culture.
The Role
As General Manager, you'll have overall responsibility for the performance of The Trevor Arms, working closely with the Head Chef to establish a successful and sustainable food-led business.
This is very much a hands-on hospitality role. We're looking for someone who enjoys being present on the restaurant floor, knows their guests and leads their team from the front.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Taking overall responsibility for the day-to-day operation of the venue
- Delivering consistently high standards of guest service
- Leading a strongly food-led restaurant operation
- Working closely with the Head Chef to deliver an excellent and consistent food offering
- Recruiting, training and developing the front-of-house team ahead of opening
- Creating a warm, professional and welcoming service culture
- Managing restaurant reservations, table planning and service flow
- Building relationships with regular guests and the local community
- Developing The Trevor Arms into a genuine destination venue
- Managing sales, labour, costs and overall site profitability
- Monitoring budgets, forecasts and key business KPIs
- Managing rotas and staffing levels in line with expected trade
- Maintaining excellent standards throughout the restaurant, bar and external areas
- Ensuring licensing, health & safety and all operational compliance requirements are met
- Managing and developing the site's management team
- Working with the wider business to drive sales, events and local marketing opportunities
About You
For this position, significant restaurant and food-led hospitality management experience is particularly important.
You'll ideally have a long-standing track record as a General Manager, Deputy General Manager or experienced Restaurant Manager within a quality gastropub, premium pub or established restaurant business.
Experience within a high-quality, food-led pub group or similar destination restaurant environment would be particularly relevant.
We're looking for someone with:
- Substantial experience managing a busy restaurant or food-led pub
- A proven track record of delivering excellent guest service
- Strong restaurant floor management skills
- Excellent leadership and people-management ability
- Experience recruiting, training and retaining good hospitality teams
- Good commercial awareness and understanding of P&L performance
- Experience managing labour, budgets and operational costs
- High standards and strong attention to detail
- A calm, organised and professional approach to running busy services
- The confidence and personality to build relationships with guests and create a strong base of regular customers
You'll also need a good understanding of bar and drinks operations, including cellar management, stock control and licensing responsibilities.
However, this is primarily a food-led operation, so we're particularly interested in candidates whose strongest experience comes from managing restaurants and quality food-led venues. Additional training and support can be provided around the wet side of the business where required.
Salary & Package
£35,000 basic salary per annum
Plus a share of site TRONC
There is also the potential for on-site accommodation, which can be discussed with suitable candidates.
Opening & Training
The Trevor Arms is currently undergoing its major refurbishment and is expected to begin trading towards the end of November.
We're looking for the successful General Manager to join us around mid-to-late October.
This will provide several weeks before opening to complete training and, importantly, give you the opportunity to be involved in preparing the business for launch.
You'll work with us on:
- Recruitment and team building
- Staff training and development
- Service standards
- Operational systems and procedures
- Menu and product knowledge
- Pre-opening planning
- Creating the culture and standards we want from day one
Why The Trevor Arms?
This is an opportunity to take ownership of a completely transformed venue rather than simply taking over an existing operation.
With approximately £700,000 being invested into the refurbishment, a strong food proposition, a large outdoor trading area and an excellent location, we're aiming to establish The Trevor Arms as a genuine destination gastropub.
For the right General Manager, this is an opportunity to build a team, establish a culture and put your own stamp on a venue from the very beginning.
If you're an experienced restaurant or food-led pub operator who takes pride in great hospitality and enjoys building long-term relationships with guests and teams, we'd love to hear from you.
Apply with your CV and a brief introduction outlining your current role, previous food-led management experience and what you're looking for next.
