General Manager

Overview

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic General Manager to lead the team at our characterful 17th-century pub near Knebworth.

This is an excellent opportunity for a hospitality professional who takes pride in delivering impeccable customer service, maintaining high standards and creating a welcoming experience for every guest.

Duties

As General Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day running of the pub and lead by example. Your responsibilities will include:

• Delivering consistently outstanding customer service
• Maintaining high standards across all areas of the pub
• Recruiting, training, motivating and developing staff
• Creating a positive, professional and supportive working environment
• Managing rotas and ensuring appropriate staffing levels
• Overseeing stock control, ordering and operational costs
• Ensuring compliance with licensing, health and safety, food hygiene and other relevant requirements
• Handling customer feedback professionally and effectively
• Working closely with the owners and the wider team to develop the business

Skills

• Proven management experience within the hospitality sector, ideally in a pub, restaurant or hotel
• A genuine passion for hospitality and the guest experience
• Impeccable customer-service skills
• Excellent leadership, communication and organisational abilities
• Experience in staff training and team development
• A hands-on approach and willingness to support the team wherever needed
• Strong attention to detail and consistently high standards
• The ability to remain calm and effective in a busy environment
• A positive, reliable and commercially aware outlook

This is very much a team-player role. We are seeking someone who will be visible, approachable and actively involved in the daily operation of the pub

This is a full-time position and will include evening, weekend and bank-holiday work.

Pay: £26,365.46-£42,228.72 per year
