General Manager

About the role

The Grocer is a smart casual eatery offering seasonal cuisine with a cheeky English flair. Celebrating New Zealand's finest produce, meat, seafood and tipple. We are looking for a General Manager who is able to work at pace and in all areas of the restaurant. The General Manager will know what it takes to create a memorable experience for our guests while ensuring the restaurant runs smoothly on a day to day basis. The General Manager will be working alongside the owner/head chef and other managers, and leading the team to deliver an exceptional experience without the snobbery.

Key responsibilities

• Work across all areas of the restaurant including meet and greet of guests, serving tables, making cocktails, and making coffee
• Provide excellent service and product knowledge to guests
• Support the wider team in all areas of the restaurant
• Strong leadership and training skills
• Be available to work weekends and evening shifts
• Confident with al carte dining and table service at a higher level
• Support event management, menu development and bar stock levels and ordering.
• Confident with liaising with suppliers and sourcing new product
• Be well organised with administration and communication with the team and external parties

About you

This ideal candidate will:

• Have a minimum of 7 years experience working in hospitality.
• Have a minimum of 2 years experience working as a Restaurant Manager, Bar Manger or General Manager.
• Will have a current Duty Managers License for New Zealand.
• Experience working in different establishments with good understanding of food and beverages.
• Excellent understanding of al carte dining and table service.
• Experience making coffee.
• Experience with cocktail bartending.
• Experience and knowledge of wine.
• Able to work weekends and evening shifts.
• Able to get to and from the city outside of public transport hours.
• Calm and relaxed under pressure.
• Able to work closely with owner/operators.
• Comfortable working with a team.
