What they need
GENERAL MANAGER
United States
Remote with Travel
A founder-led consumer products company in the fashion accessories and wholesale distribution space is seeking a General Manager to serve as the CEO/Owner’s second-in-command. The company is approximately $5 million in revenue today and is building the commercial and operating infrastructure to support profitable growth toward $20 million and beyond.
The General Manager will have broad responsibility for commercial execution, operating discipline, financial performance, and organizational development. This is a hands-on role for an executive who is comfortable working in a smaller, entrepreneurial business and building structure while remaining close to customers, people, and day-to-day execution.
The role offers the potential to grow into a President-level position as responsibilities expand.
Key Areas of Responsibility
- Commercial Growth: Develop and execute the sales plan, strengthen major account relationships, build a small internal sales capability alongside the existing independent representative network, and establish consistent sales processes, forecasting, compensation, and reporting.
- Business Operations & Financial Performance: Work across Sales, Product, Operations, and Finance to improve forecasting, inventory planning, working capital management, profitability, KPIs, and operating accountability. P&L responsibility will expand as the General Manager becomes established in the business.
- Organization & Leadership: Clarify roles and decision rights, develop existing talent, identify organizational gaps, recruit additional leaders where needed, and create an operating structure that reduces dependence on the CEO for daily execution.
Key Qualifications & Skills
- Relevant leadership experience in consumer products, fashion accessories, footwear, apparel, or an adjacent product category, with strong knowledge of wholesale distribution and major retail customers.
- Demonstrated commercial leadership, including sales strategy, key account management, sales team development, and experience working with independent representatives or similar channel partners.
- Cross-functional leadership experience with the ability to connect commercial priorities with operations, product, financial performance, and organizational execution.
Candidates do not need to currently hold a General Manager or President title. Accomplished VP, divisional, commercial, or operating executives with relevant scope and experience will be considered. Prior full P&L ownership is preferred but is not an absolute requirement.
Company Information
The company is a founder-led fashion accessories and consumer products business with established wholesale distribution, licensed brands, and relationships across department store, specialty, off-price, independent, e-commerce, and international channels.
The business has an established product and operating platform and intends to expand through additional brands, licenses, categories, channels, and potentially acquisitions. The General Manager will play a central role in developing the commercial and organizational infrastructure required to support that growth.
This is a fully remote U.S.-based position . Travel will be driven by business needs and may include meetings with customers, employees, independent sales representatives, operating partners, warehouses/3PL providers, factories, suppliers, and other business partners.
Leadership & Culture
Reports to: CEO/Owner
The organization is small and hands-on, without multiple layers of management. Team members are expected to work across functions when necessary and maintain a strong focus on customer service.
The General Manager will work closely with the CEO while progressively assuming greater responsibility for daily operations, execution, prioritization, and cross-functional accountability. The CEO will remain focused on long-term vision, major strategic decisions, and significant capital allocation.
The working environment calls for a leader who is direct, collaborative, accountable, financially disciplined, resourceful, and comfortable operating with the ambiguity and constraints common to an entrepreneurial business.
