What they need
A.B.S. Gym & Fitness Ltd. is looking for a hands-on General Manager to lead the launch and day-to-day operation of our new fitness centre in Bandon, Co. Cork.
This is a practical leadership role combining gym operations, team coordination, membership sales, local marketing, class organisation and coaching.
Expected start date: November 2026
Key responsibilities
- From your first day, take ownership of the gym launch plan, organise operational priorities and prepare approved membership and class-launch campaigns.
- Create, organise and launch the gym’s class programme, including the class mix, timetable, instructor cover, class capacity and booking arrangements.
- Monitor class attendance and member feedback, and adjust the programme where required.
- Personally deliver an agreed number of group classes, Group PT sessions, Spin classes and/or one-to-one personal training sessions.
- Oversee daily gym operations, including staff rotas, opening and closing standards, member service, cleanliness, equipment checks, health and safety, and maintenance reporting.
- Follow up membership enquiries, support membership sales and retention, monitor agreed KPIs and take practical action where performance is below target.
- Build relationships with local sports clubs, teams, employers and community groups, with the aim of generating new enquiries and memberships.
- Plan and run approved local marketing, referral, membership and class campaigns in cooperation with the Directors.
- Support and coordinate the gym team, communicate priorities clearly and help maintain a professional and welcoming environment.
- Report regularly to the Directors on memberships, sales, class performance, staffing, member feedback and operational matters.
Experience and skills
- Previous experience in gym or fitness centre operations, ideally with team leadership or supervisory responsibilities.
- Confidence in membership sales, customer service, campaign delivery and local community outreach.
- Ability to build and organise a class timetable and coordinate instructors.
- Strong organisation, communication, reporting and problem-solving skills.
- Initiative and the ability to work effectively in a new gym launch environment.
Required qualifications
- A relevant Personal Training qualification at QQI Level 5 or 6, a Level 3 Personal Trainer qualification, or a recognised equivalent.
- A Group Exercise or Group Personal Training qualification.
- A recognised Spin Instructor certification.
- Willingness to undertake and maintain any additional training, qualifications or certifications required for the role, including safeguarding, first aid or programme-specific certifications.
Eligibility and Garda Vetting
Applicants must already be legally entitled to work in Ireland and must maintain that entitlement throughout their employment.
Any offer of employment will be conditional upon satisfactory Garda Vetting. This is an essential requirement because the role may involve regular contact with members under 18. The successful candidate must cooperate with the Garda Vetting process and must not undertake duties involving under-18s until the required vetting has been completed.
Working hours
This is a full-time, permanent position of 40 hours per week, normally worked over five days. The roster will include some early mornings, evenings and weekends depending on the gym’s operational requirements and class timetable.
What we offer
- €40,000 gross annual salary
- Performance bonus scheme
- Gym membership
- The opportunity to help shape a new fitness centre, its class programme and its local member community from launch
