General Manager

Posman Books is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced General Manager to lead our new store in Nashville, TN. This is an exciting, front-facing leadership opportunity for someone who thrives on customer interaction and brings positive energy to everything they do. As we prepare to open our doors, the General Manager will play a key role in the store’s launch, helping build and develop the team, prepare the space for opening, and establish the welcoming, engaging atmosphere that defines the Posman Books experience.

Key Responsibilities

Leadership & Staff Management

• Recruit, hire, train, and supervise all bookstore staff
• Create employee schedules and manage staffing levels to ensure smooth operations
• Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching to support employee development
• Foster a positive work environment that encourages teamwork and growth
• Delegate tasks effectively and hold staff accountable

Sales & Customer Service

• Ensure exceptional customer service standards are maintained at all times
• Monitor sales performance and adjust tactics to drive results
• Handle customer complaints and resolve issues professionally

Inventory & Merchandising

• Monitor inventory management, including receiving and backstock.
• Collaborate with buyers and upper management to ensure brand-compliant store presentation
• Conduct regular inventory audits and minimize shrinkage

Operations & Facilities

• Manage day-to-day store operations and ensure smooth functioning
• Maintain store cleanliness, organization, and safety standards
• Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and company policies
• Coordinate store maintenance and repairs as needed

Strategic Planning

• Stay aware of market trends and competitor activities
• Identify opportunities for improvement and growth
• Adapt to changing industry conditions and customer preferences
• Report on store performance and strategic initiatives to upper management

Qualifications

• 3+ years of management experience in retail or a related field
• Proven track record of leading and developing teams
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities
• Comfortable with POS systems and basic computer applications
• Passion for books and literacy, as well as sidelines that include cards, candles, plushies, and a host of other products
• Flexibility to work evenings, weekends and holidays
• Ability to lift as much as 35 lbs
