POSITION OVERVIEW
MOD Interiors is seeking a General Manager to lead its custom millwork and casework business. This position owns operating performance and profitability, with responsibility for turning awarded work into well-executed projects that meet customer commitments and financial goals.
The General Manager will lead estimating, project management, engineering, purchasing, production, and installation coordination. The successful candidate will spend time on the shop floor, develop department leaders, and establish dependable schedules across both complex custom work and repeatable casework production.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Business Leadership and Financial Performance
Own the operating plan, budget, and profit and loss performance; review results with IIG leadership and act on variances.
Review project estimates, labor budgets, material costs, and actual margins to improve pricing and execution.
Partner with accounting on work in process, billing milestones, collections, inventory, and cash requirements.
Evaluate staffing, equipment, outsourcing, and capital needs against capacity, service, and financial returns.
Report revenue, margin, labor performance, on-time delivery, backlog, and major project risks with clear action plans.
Production Planning and Project Execution
Maintain an integrated schedule from approved drawings and material release through fabrication, delivery, and installation.
Balance capacity across cutting, lamination, assembly, sanding, hardware, and finishing; address bottlenecks before dates slip.
Lead regular backlog and production reviews, assign owners to open issues, and verify completion.
Require timely field measurements, submittal approvals, material availability, and accurate shop information before release.
Coordinate project managers, customers, contractors, and installation resources on site readiness, sequencing, and firm delivery dates.
Quality Safety and Continuous Improvement
Set clear workmanship and inspection expectations; reduce scrap, rework, damage, and field punch-list items.
Hold supervisors accountable for safe work practices, housekeeping, training, and timely correction of hazards.
Improve shop layout, material flow, standard work, inventory accuracy, and preventive maintenance.
Manage suppliers and subcontractors for quality, delivery, and cost; address shortages and performance issues promptly.
People Leadership and Customer Relationships
Set expectations for department leaders, coach performance, and build accountability through consistent follow-up.
Partner with HR on hiring, retention, employee development, and succession planning.
Support sales and estimating on project selection, capacity commitments, scope, and contract reviews.
Maintain key customer relationships, resolve escalations, and ensure scope changes are documented and priced.
Coordinate resources with other IIG businesses when beneficial and perform other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
At least seven years of progressive leadership experience in custom millwork, casework, architectural woodworking, or a closely related manufacturing business.
At least three years leading a plant, business unit, or multiple departments with responsibility for financial results.
Demonstrated success improving delivery performance, project margins, labor productivity, and team accountability.
Strong understanding of estimating, job costing, production scheduling, purchasing, and construction project execution.
Ability to read architectural plans, shop drawings, specifications, and project schedules.
Experience using ERP or project management systems and Excel to make operating decisions.
Ability to work on site in Ira Township, visit project sites, and communicate effectively with shop employees and customers.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience managing both complex custom millwork and casework production.
Experience with estimating, scheduling, and job cost reporting.
Experience coordinating field installation, subcontractors, change orders, and project closeout.
Bachelor's degree in business, construction management, engineering, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
IDEAL CANDIDATE
The successful candidate will combine practical millwork knowledge with financial discipline. This person should be comfortable challenging an unrealistic schedule, resolving a production constraint, and explaining the effect of a decision on project margin.
We are looking for a leader who develops capable managers, follows through on commitments, and takes responsibility for the customer experience from award through project completion.
