What they need
GENERAL MANAGER
St. George Inn | Historic St. Augustine, Florida
$75,000–$100,000 Base Salary + Performance Bonus Up to 25%
Preferred start: mid-November 2026, with flexibility for the right candidate
The St. George Inn, an established independent boutique hotel in the heart of historic St. Augustine, is looking for an exceptional General Manager to lead the property into its next chapter.
We're not simply looking for someone who has held the title of General Manager. We're looking for a smart, knowledgeable, revenue-driven hospitality professional. You understand the numbers and exceptional service, you know how to lead people, and you know that the smallest details often separate an ordinary hotel from an extraordinary one.
We will be highly selective.
THE OPPORTUNITY
The St. George Inn has spent decades building its reputation as one of St. Augustine's distinctive independent hotels. With 35 guest rooms and our wine bar, Bin 39, we operate at a high standard, but we are not a traditional corporate hotel.
We are entrepreneurial, hands-on and intensely guest-focused.
Our General Manager must be equally comfortable with all of it:
analyzing revenue performance and managing expenses
walking rooms and developing employees
speaking with guests and helping with luggage
supporting service at Bin 39 and helping prepare or serve breakfast
stepping into any other area of the business that needs attention
There are no unimportant jobs at the St. George Inn, and no member of our team is too important to perform them. That philosophy starts with ownership and extends through the General Manager and every member of our team.
WE WANT A HOTELIER WHO UNDERSTANDS THE BUSINESS
This position requires more than excellent hospitality skills. Our next General Manager must understand the economics of running a successful hotel. You should be comfortable discussing and managing:
ADR, occupancy and RevPAR
Revenue management and pricing strategy
Booking pace and demand patterns
Direct versus third-party distribution
Forecasting and budgeting
Payroll and labor productivity
Operating expenses and profitability
Guest satisfaction and reputation
Property standards and preventative maintenance
Sales, marketing and local positioning
You don't need to know everything on your first day. You do need the intelligence, curiosity and discipline to understand why the numbers move and what you can do about them.
LEADERSHIP WITHOUT EGO
Our culture is unusual and intentional. We have a small team, so flexibility matters. Employees are not confined to narrow job descriptions, and neither is the General Manager. When something needs to be done, we do it.
The right GM will be demanding about standards while treating every employee with respect. We want someone who develops people, holds them accountable and understands that exceptional hospitality comes from a team, not from a title.
If you believe being General Manager means certain jobs are beneath you, this will not be the right environment.
A SIGNIFICANT MENTORING OPPORTUNITY
The successful candidate will work directly with ownership and be personally mentored by our owner. His hospitality and tourism career spans more than four decades, including senior hotel and resort leadership, major hospitality acquisitions, destination tourism leadership, and work on some of America's largest sporting and tourism events.
The purpose is not to micromanage our next General Manager. It is to pass on decades of experience while giving a talented hospitality professional the opportunity and authority to grow, make decisions and help make the St. George Inn better than it is today.
We welcome accomplished General Managers as well as exceptional Assistant General Managers, Directors of Operations, Rooms Division leaders and other hotel professionals ready for the next step.
Ability matters more to us than title.
EXPECT A DIFFERENT INTERVIEW
Finalists should expect to discuss actual hotel operating and revenue information. We may hand you a set of hotel numbers and simply ask:
“What do you see?”
There isn't a rehearsed answer we're looking for. We want to understand how you think, what you notice, what questions you ask, and whether you can translate financial and operating information into action.
COMPENSATION
Base salary: $75,000–$100,000, based on experience and demonstrated ability
Annual performance bonus: up to 25% of base salary, tied to revenue performance, profitability, guest experience, operational standards and team leadership
Total potential annual cash compensation at the top of the range: $125,000
WHO SHOULD APPLY
You should consider this opportunity if you are passionate about independent hospitality, financially literate, highly detail-oriented and competitive about results. You're comfortable making decisions, and you still genuinely enjoy taking care of guests.
- We aren't searching for someone to simply maintain what already exists. We're searching for a leader who respects what has been built, understands why it works, and can help us make it even better.
